Is there any way to convert an altered ASM file into a BIN file (so that it can be played on an emulator)? I'm assuming that there is.

If by "altered ASM file" you mean an assembly listing that's been modified in some way from its original version, then yes, you can use an assembler to re-assemble the ASM file into a BIN file. Try DASM.
