It was announced that to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Mario, a special edition red Wii bundle was being released in Japan that came pre-loaded with the original Super Mario Bros. and also contained the new Wii-mote with built-in Motion Plus. Now, it appears that Europe is getting this same bundle but packed with Donkey Kong instead of SMB. No announcement on whether any configuration of this red Wii will be released in North America.

Just curious if anyone would be interested in this bundle if it was released?

I've actually been wondering why there aren't colored versions of Wii consoles. Yeah, the black one just came out this year (or was it last year?) but that's it? Black and white? Comeon, what happend to all the candy ass happy colors of the previous generations? I like my translucent green N64, my Purple and black Cube, my Green GBC, and Gold GBA, so what happened?

To be fair, I wouldn't buy it, I gave up on Wii a long time ago, but if Nintendo did a "mario all stars" type of mario game with all the previous games on it for the Wii, that would be a must have for me.

Kotaku Story

Looks like a European release is official with a Oct. 29th release date.

Why the heck is the base not molded in red to match the console. I think the grey base looks terrible with the red console.

I saw a base that had "glow in the dark" lights in it being sold on Amazon one time. I don't remember the price, color lights, or manufacturer but something like that might be interesting, depending on the available colors and price.

But then again, face plates weren't very successful on the Xbox so maybe fancy base units for the Wii wouldn't be popular either.

Saw some of these at walmart the other day. Looks cool, but I already got a wii...and can't see any justification in getting a different color, unless I get it at a pawn for $50 o rless.
