Ok the vote was tied so we'll play both
Gorf and Zeppelin :!:

Individual scoring for each game. Closing date 31st October 2010, 6pm BST, so plenty of time to play these two classic games ;)

Zeppelin takes a bit of practice, from memory you shoot stuff, toggle switches, collect keys and things and take them places. I think you can also use two joysticks simultaneously on this one, so good fun if you have an atari pal  :D

I remember Gorf can save the high-scores to disk, if anyone has a version that this works on (as mine was on a menu and corrupted another game!) please post a copy/link :) HERE

Gorf
atarimania rating 7.5

Zeppelin
atarimania rating 7.8

Ok I've played them both now, Zeppelin is pretty awesome, can't believe I haven't played this more. Very satisfying annihilating everything  Managed to beat the first level (7) for the first time ever, took a while to play though. I guess you are escaping from somewhere as it then went to level 6 and got seriously nasty. Must read the instructions to check whether we're meant to be a goodie or a baddie, if the former I'm sorry folks in those cities, maybe you should have gone for the stronger protective domes ;-)

Hint: If you get hit, use the few seconds of 'invincible time' to get across the screen to safety. If you wish you can play on 3 player then stick 1 on an XE becomes sticks 1 and 3 and you can fire as you move, it also fires at a different rate - but I don't think this is necessarily an advantage!

If you've not done so be sure to check out the artwork on the box and adverts on atarimania

SPOILER ALERT: You get the burger thing and take it to the big door, then get the TNT and take it to near the plunger and kaboom!

Gorf, nice quick blast. Play on any level, game progresses through them anyway, after Lv24 goes back to Lv1 but stays difficult.

Hint: Shoot the flagship fragments for more points.

BONUS POINT CHALLENGE:
The person who most savages the flag ship (every 4th screen) will get a bonus point.
You'll have to pause (space) to grab a picture when you have made a decent effort, it must be taken alive! Here's an example:

Ahm, Gorf is winning so we should play that one. Since you left the polls open, we should play the one that's ahead. So if tomorrow Zeppelin is ahead, we should play that one. At the end of October, only those scores will count for the one whose poll has higher votes.

Who did that?! I have gwobby and mopchop over at the weekend so I'll order them to vote to keep it even, otherwise I'll start on the microphone and they wouldn't like that, no one likes that :)

How about you take the maximum of the ranking points in the standings for the two games played? That way, each person can play the game he likes more than the other one. Frankly, I don't like the Zeppelin game. Gorf is okay, although I didn't quite get what you meant by that bonus.

MSC? Michael Schumacher?

It's the Minimum Scoring Committee; I quoted part of their charter in post #76 of the Ixion thread. It's section 4 is dedicated to scoring requirements for games with bad controls that allow one to form a scoring club. Regarding the Zeppelin game, it's in section 3 of the charter:

Section 3.1 section A part Z it states:

"The lowest scores allowed for Zeppelin that can allow that individual to form a club must be >=4096 or 13-bits. This allows for 13-bit scoring club to have an acronym of TSC and fourteen bit and fifteen bit scores to have an acronym of FSC and sixteen bit and seventeen bit scores to have an acronym of SSC. Eighteen bit scores to have an acronum of ESC (not to be confused with the Escape key). Anyone forming clubs with scores of less than 4096 points will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law getting scores that are disgrace to gaming in general."

But cheer up if you don't like their tyrant-type mentality then read later in section 3.2 section C, part VI, it states:

"And 20-bit scores automatically put the scorer into TSC which would confuse with thirteen bit scores. Once we have the member's name who went ballistic to get this 20-bit score (>=524288), then this MSC charter and the committee will be dissolved and all members fired for thinking that such a high score isn't possible."

I only played the copy I had (it corrupts the RAM over a few plays but is otherwise ok) Try Fandal XEX or atarionline.pl they have several XEX at ATRs :)
[EDIT - Fandal and .pls' xex (v1) have the hacked cheat mode but take default options for the HSC, the (v2) on .pl is the original] ;)

Roadrunner the guy playing in that 1st video needs to invest in a joystick, no diagonals until about half way round! Looks like he was trying to save bullets too, the game is much more fun than that ;) p.s. Check out this Led Zep Atari demo and report back!

Nice clip deteacher  I used to love the muppets, wish it would be repeated one day :)

Yeah, it did that for me too until I used 128K+ setting. So try 130XE. Maybe it needs more memory to corrupt before it starts.

Meanwhile, for the game we should be playing-- gorf, I haven't found the meaning of that word. It may be some illiterate way of spelling golf as you have to strike down aliens with golf balls (like the weird Preppie concept).
