Actually, I just found this tip out. Scrabbler sort of beat me to it, but one of his tips is not 100% accurate:

If you clear out all the flames, you get a 10pt. per survivor bonus. So, you can gain up to 40 points bonus if you can wipe out all the flames before losing any survivors.

I just finished a game where I had over 1,000 points after clearing the first building. So, to ammend my previous tips, it does pay to play with fire on the early levels. Heck, it's even worth it to lose one survivor and go after all the flames...you'll net more points in the end.

That makes sense. Thanks for the correction.

Btw, I'm with you on your earlier post. This game makes my hands stiff from my fingers to my elbows.

I've cleared all the flames from the screen numerous times without getting a 10-point bonus for each survivor. There must be something more to this, like "without losing any of your firemen on that screen."

I cleared the flames on the 8th floor of the 3rd building, and I think it gave me too much time to think about clearing the 9th floor.

Didn't make it to building 4.

Hmmm...not sure why it's not happening to you. Try this out and tell me what you see:

Start a new game (game 1).
Clear out all the flames on the first floor (doesn't seem to matter how many firemen you lose) but don't leave the room just yet. Take note of your score before leaving the room. The score range is approximate since the number of flames is random, but your score should be roughly:

50-60 points if all 4 survivors remain
40-50 points if 3 survivors remain
30-40 points it 2 survivors remain
20-30 points if 1 survivor remain

I just tried this out on all the available roms I have for this game and this scoring scheme works fine in all of them. If you're not getting the bonus, I'm not sure what could be causing that.

Can't seem to get to the 4th building. I didn't notice the extra bonus for clearing all the flames, but now I will look for it.

There is a bonus for clearing a floor. My highest score for the first floor is 158. Can't do that without a bonus.

2150 - still stuck on building 3... just better at point harvesting.

Yeah, ever since I had that one good run, I haven't been able to get through the 9th floor of building 3...I know that once I do, I should be able to top my best score.

That is where I am stuck right now too.

I can't believe there are 9 buildings in this game. I wonder who they got to play test this one where they thought people could actually get that far and beat it. We have now played the heck out of this and are not even half way.

SUPER fun game though. I am really enjoying this one. It is by far the best game that VidTec made.

New high score - 2,377 - Floor 9 of building 3. The thing about this game is; you can be having an awesome game and then it is all shot to hell in a heartbeat. On a side note; I think a history teacher programmed the AI in this game, I got back to back scores of 1492 and 1776.

Well, MY firefighter is the sexiest of them all. He saved two buildings and was well into his third but the female survivors kept wanting to make out after their rescue.

I've got a great view of that 4th building from here on the 9th floor of the 3rd building. I'd love to visit there, but I don't know if I'll make it before the janitor closes Building 4.

I made it to building #4! However, only once; and it wasn't a very good run up to it. I can usually get in the 2500-2600 range when entering 3-9 now, except the one time I make it to building 4. Argh.
