Ok,
I've taken on board your suggestions, ignored them all and come up with probable categories and suggestions. Will add some of the other games to the regular HSC playlist for future votes e.g. Ballblazer, Kangaroo etc. Will finalise the games nearer the time and sort out the format. Still time for more suggestions

Most categories have a scroller, puzzle, pinball and silly fun game. Possible Games for each category below:

Don't be afraid
Drelbs, Nightmares, Little Devil, Gremlins, Ghost Chaser, Monster Smash,
Ghost!, Nightmare Manor, Nightmare Maze, Zador, Meteor

Dig the new breed
Animal Party, CTetris 4e, Space Binvaders, Yar's Strike, Viper (2009), Voyage To Home, Swapz, Advanced Pinball Simulator, BellJumper 1K

Water Slaughter
Atlantis, River Rescue, Amphibian, Cloud Burst, Bubble Trouble, Salmon Run, River Rat,
Plot, David's Midnight Magic, Steeple Jack

Up a well known creek.. with Paddles!
Super Ball IV, Clowns and Balloons, Space Eggs, Spy's Demise, Chiseler,
Midnight Strip, Hazard Run, Juggler, Night Mission Pinball, Flying Ace
(Note: 7 are paddle games, 3 of these support joystick+/keyboard too)

Just this 'bonus' round then back to regular for December and thinking of finishing the season mid Jan. Hope this is ok for everyone. I don't want to overload people so thinking 7 games and will make sure they don't take too long to play, at least three of every 7 will be quickies

Since I only play the role of spoiler, I won't go that far. But, I'd at least give a token play to any game in the pic.

Ok then.
Most of these "non-mainstream" titles I have in my Commodore collection. While there's a lot of surprisingly good ones there, I just haven't felt like buying them all over again.

I voted for the Paddle games. I haven't played some of those.

I've been thinking about the format and will make this more off a bonus round as follows:

5 main games will be selected these will have 3pts for first, 2pts for 2nd-6th place, 1pt for other places.

Then there will be an option of 5 other games in the category that are just for fun and will score 2pts each.

These will all be real HSC points

This makes the maximum 5x3=15 + 5x2=10 total 25pts and the minimum 5x1=5 + 5x2=10 total 15pts assuming you play all the games. Plus any other bonus point challenges
