Some last-minute submissions:

Bermuda Triangle: 62,550!

Pooyan: 8,245!

Don't know if I'll have enough time to improve...and I just started to get the hang of Pooyan, too. :(

Ze_ro:
A single correction to make on Pooyan: My score obtained on Pooyan (Final Attempt) increased from 19,130 to 22,870 points (After obtaining 19,130 points, I tried again to break the 20K mark).

I am still happy because I am the partial leader in this competition, considering the Combined Score on Variety Pack 2.

Final Attempt = Bermuda Triangle - 437,200 2-3 hours later, I gave in at the 400ks, but beat out the Twin Galaxies score!

Final Attempt = Fast Eddie - 49,810 Could have rolled it but I made the mistake of trying to jump over the three piles.

Posted Image Sweet Triangle! Nice! I tried, but I couldn't stay with it long enough to make six figures.

Thanks sir :) I could have kept going but after a couple hours pass, it gets pretty tedious.

Hat tip to all who participated these past two weeks and a special nod to all who put up the big scores in each game. The competition was great and I had a lot of fun with this set of games. Posted Image Posted Image

Thank u. Took some timing and some accuracy.

Now we know the mystery of Bermuda. A lazer has been evaporating planes and ships for years! ;)

Congrads on getting #1st with an impressive Time Pilot score, + the roll on Fast Eddie.

Very fun two weeks! Ending at just the right time it seems... nothing left to give. :P

Well, that's the end of another variety pack... I hope everyone had fun with these games! It's difficult to try to pick ones that go well together and to try to keep it even so that one game doesn't monopolize all the scoring. If we've played a game before, it's easy to look up the scoring, but for games that are new, it's somewhat harder. Just out of curiosity, I keep track of how much each game contributed to the total scoring (including it's weighting), and here's what I came up with:
  • Pooyan - 38.8%
  • Bermuda Triangle - 29.8%
  • Fast Eddie - 19.3%
  • Time Pilot - 12.1%
However, JacobZu7zu7's amazing score on Bermuda Triangle really skewed things, and without that, Pooyan jumps up to closer to 45%. Basically, you guys did better on Pooyan than I expected. A better set of multipliers would have been Pooyan x8, and Time Pilot x2.

Just for kicks, here's a look at the same stats for the first variety pack:
  • Atlantis - 39.6%
  • Squeeze Box - 32.2%
  • Kaboom - 15.3%
  • Astroblast - 12.9%
But again, this was skewed by zylon's excellent score in Astroblast, without which Astroblast falls below 10% (yikes!) The fact that four people maxed the score on Atlantis also messes with things a bit. The multipliers were Kaboom x20, Squeeze Box x10, Atlantis x1, and Astroblast x5... while a better weighting would have been Kaboom x50, Squeeze Box x12, Atlantis x1, and Astroblast x20.

But whatever, figuring out which game pays off the best and which isn't worth spending too much time with is part of the challenge... But I've always been a math geek, so it's fun to crunch the numbers to see how it went. I plan to do one more variety pack before the end of the season, and the games I plan to use will make things even stranger to score, but I look forward to the challenge.

You may want to consider using percentages instead of combined scores for this very reason. Percentage scores are used in tournament play to determine the overall standings.

I ran the calculations for you...

Broken down per game, here are the percentage scores:

22,870 (oyamafamily) 100
790 (Chuck D Head) 0.03454307
8245 (Deteacher) 0.36051596
12,355 (JacobZu7zu7) 0.540227372
1105 (LarcenTyler) 0.048316572
1655 (madbutscher) 0.072365544
1045 (rmaerz) 0.045693048
2330 (roadrunner) 0.101880192
11,440 (Scrabbler15) 0.500218627
1050 (SeaGtGruff) 0.045911675
2665 (toymailman) 0.116528203

437,200 (JacubZu7zu7) 100
12,500 (Chuck D Head) 0.028591034
62,550 (Deteacher) 0.143069533
7500 (LarcenTyler) 0.01715462
10,550 (madbutscher) 0.024130833
11,550 (Mangia-Boy) 0.026418115
16,050 (Miss 0.036710887
19,800 (oyamafamily) 0.045288198
5200 (rmaerz) 0.01189387
18,150 (roadrunner) 0.041514181
44,750 (Scrabbler15) 0.102355901
1550 (SeaGtGruff) 0.003545288
105,850 (toymailman) 0.242108875

51,000 (toymailman) 100
8400 (Chuck D Head) 0.164705882
23,000 (Deteacher) 0.450980392
37,600 (JacobZu7zu7) 0.737254902
23,700 (LarcenTyler) 0.464705882
4600 (madbutscher) 0.090196078
15,700 (Mangia-Boy) 0.307843137
41,700 (Miss 2600) 0.817647059
38,100 (oyamafamily) 0.747058824
16,300 (roadrunner) 0.319607843
35,300 (Scrabbler15) 0.692156863
12,100 (SeaGtGruff) 0.237254902

100,000 (Deteacher) 100
6650 (Chuck D Head) 0.0665
49,810 (JacobZu7zu7) 0.4981
3230 (LarcenTyler) 0.0323
21,720 (Mangia-Boy) 0.2172
17,040 (Miss 2600) 0.1704
100,000 (oyamafamily) 100
17,840 (rmaerz) 0.1784
20,730 (roadrunner) 0.2073
29,240 (Scrabbler15) 0.2924
21,140 (SeaGtGruff) 0.2114
100,000 (toymailman) 100

The point distribution would therefore be based on the average of the percentage scores:
(oyamafamily) 50.19808676
(toymailman) 33.45287903
(JacobZu7zu7) 25.44389557
(Scrabbler15) 0.396782848
(Miss 2600) 0.341585982
(Deteacher) 0.318188628
(Mangia-Boy) 0.183820418
(roadrunner) 0.167575554
(LarcenTyler) 0.140619269
(SeaGtGruff) 0.124527966
(rmaerz) 0.078662306
(madbutscher) 0.062230818
(Chuck D Head) 0.031567052

On the Arcade/MAME HSC, I do not combine scores for tournaments or doubleheaders. Players get points per each game played just as they normally would for a single game HSC week. Since the tournaments are typically 10-12 games, giving points per each game gives players incentive to play every game in the tournament. Even though the overall point standings may resemble NASCAR's, it rewards players for playing an entire season instead of those (like myself) that do not play on a regular basis (excluding the Arcade/MAME HSC).

The Arcade/MAME point distribution is as follows:
1st = 20 pts
2nd = 15 pts
3rd = 12 pts
4th = 10 pts
5th = 8 pts
6th = 6 pts
7th = 5 pts
8th = 4 pts
9th = 3 pts
10th = 2 pts
11th and lower = 1 participation point

This gives players incentive to improve their scores.

So, with the combined score point distribution, I recommend using percentage instead of the combined scores.
