I have been entrusted with trying to find a way to fix this thing.
It was my deceased father's, was left at a brother's house...
He tried to repair it, and it has come out recently that the repairman stole the motor.

I'm not the most handy fellow, and was wondering if anyone could give me a jumping off point?

Thanks. First post in many years!

Could you list all the problems it has? I guess the obvious one would be if it powers on at all, then what functions work and don't work.

You've already got a good starting point - Marvin's, but other than that and on an old EM machine like this, just make sure all switches are cleaned (with a file, never spray anything into these machines) and adjusted properly (observe their action when pressing the fiberboard on the switch stack), ensure your jones' plugs are plugged in properly and all fuses are good and at the correct values. Score reels need to be taken apart entirely, cleaned, adjusted and put back together. NEVER use grease on coil plungers or nylon gears - EVER. You'll just gum up the action and make it that much more difficult for us to repair in the future.

Search the web and 'Google Groups' for a replacement motor. They're out there....

Well, when plugging it the machine does...nothing at all.

What would be the next step?

If it does nothing then start with the obvious, there is probably a fuse somewhere in the machine I would check that first.

Okay, I will look at the fuses and report back. Thanks.

Does plugging in include turning on? Is there a power switch?
