It's already out? Is the golden controller still in a bundle pack with it?

Comes out today. I ordered via Amazon opting for the bundle with golden controller. It shipped release date delivery which is next day air ups. Should be delivered by 10:30-12. Out in stores today also.

By ordering the bundle thru Amazon, did you get the FREE DVD of GoldenEye they were giving away also?

I was going to order GoldenEye thru Amazon but elected instead to take advantage of the "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" deal that Target is running this week and get GoldenEye, Kirby and PokePark: Pikachu's Adventure (for my Grandson) and save $50.

The commercials have caused me to have some serious nostalgia. Here is IGN's review if anyone wants to read it:

IGN gave it 9/10.

Also, Joystiq's review: 4/5

I was somewhat skeptical of Activision's willingness/ability to deliver, but it looks like I might be getting this sooner rather than later. ;)

More reviews in...looks like best Wii FPS so far besides Metroid Prime 3.

Picked it up today with the golden controller bundle and blew the huge pile of dust of the Wii.

Classic. 007. Goodness.

Woohoo! :D

I'd love to be excited about this, but I am pretty pissed about the Lucas-esque revisionist history. Unnecessary and insulting.

?

Are you referring to the Daniel Craig-ing of GoldenEye? I agree that it's kind of lame, but you gotta accept that us nostalgists don't pay the bills. :) Take it for what it is and enjoy. Like I told my brother in regards to the Downey/Law Sherlock Holmes - it's the best you're gonna get from Hollywood, and it's pretty good for all that - so might as well enjoy it. ;)

I'm just happy that Activision - a publisher with barely veiled contempt for it's customers, employees, and the business it's in - actually seems to have put forth some effort. :o

I'm really, really enjoying GoldenEye and this game is a quality release from the moment the game begins. I loved the intro with the song and credits as it reminded me of watching the movie.

I don't know about anyone else but I have to admit I'm having slight problems getting used to the WiiMote - Nunchuk controls. I've spent so much time with World at War, Modern Combat, and The Conduit that I've gotten used to using the WiiMote to aim and turn my character and now I'm having trouble adapting to using the Nunchuk as the method for aiming/movement while the WiiMote is only a button device. I'm going to give the Pro Controller a try next and see if its more comfortable to use.

GameRankings has 007 just a smidge higher: http://www.gameranki...letter=&search=

By the time more reviews are in I think the Metascores will be basically identical. Call it a tie. ;)

Really? I had the impression from reviews that you could use the Wiimote to aim...

Quote

That said, honestly, the game has some of the best Wii Remote controller support seen in a first-person shooter, and with practice it's clear that the quick and direct aiming of the Wii pointer is the true way to play this game. The Remote support is second only to The Conduit's crazy OCD level of customization, but in GoldenEye you have full input on pointer sensitivity, rotation speed, invert look, and other options...
That's from the IGN review.

If you can't use the Wiimote to aim I won't be buying...??

I think Goldeneye should stabilize around ~80, so even Red Steel 2 might have a chance to score marginaly better.

I haven't tried that way because generally I despise the floaty wiimote controls as an aiming device, but the box does have the symbol for the plastic 'gunchuck' thing on it.

I've never found the Wiimote/Nunchcuck combo to be particularly good for FPS style games. I'll likely play it with the classic controller.

Two types of controls:

Classic Controller Pro: Left joystick is for movement, Right joystick for view direction/aim. The button setup is really good on this one. You can modify the sensitivity for the joysticks both horizontally and Vertically and move the buttons around to find the best setup for you.

Wii remote w/ Nunchuck: Nunchuck joystick for movement, two buttons on nunchuck one for duck one for aim change, there is added movement in the use of the wii nunchuck in which you tilt it sideways to peek out of hiding, Wii remote for view direction/aiming B button to fire, A to jump/sprint run. The problem with this is the A is hard to hit when using a gun-like holder for the Wii remote. I haven't moved the button around but will probably mess around with the configuration of the A button. Probably move it to the nunchuck. The wii remote also allows for configuration changes. It also has built in pre-programed settings for assisted aiming at several different levels of difficulty.

I bought this game looking for something different than the 1000 games of Halo/COD I have played. I wanted to play a more classic FPS. This game is fun to play. This game also supports the GAMECUBE CONTROLLER! While the game is not the best looking I have seen. It is fun to play and there are several control options. This is one of the best FPS shooters on the Wii. I think that it is a good hybrid between a classic bond experience with the addition of some "lite" COD perks. I give it a solid B.

You are absolutely correct.

When I first tried WiiMote/Nunchuk, there was no registration of movement onscreen when I used the WiiMote. The best I could do was aim with the Nunchuk and use the WiiMote for nothing more than button presses. This made the game impossible to play. Well, I went back in and played around with settings (GoldenEye allows you to control almost any setting you can imagine) and I suddenly found that I had WiiMote aiming!! Whoa!!

So.... putting on dunce cap and slinking to corner........ I just didn't have the game configured properly and it was all my fault.

A couple more things I've noticed in playing.....

I've tried the Pro Controller setup and it is really, really nice. Very slick to use and very accurate.
I've tried online multiplayer and the hacker's have already torn this game to pieces. My first match had two players who were Lvl 99999999.
Some sounds in the game are really lame. While playing online multiplayer, it sounded like old style typewriters clicking rather than guns firing.

Great game and I'm really enjoying the solo campaign.

Played this last night. The classic controller/pro controller setup is best for me. I just have a hard time using the wiimote to move my head around. Its not the aiming...just the head movement. Definitely feels like the original Goldeneye. It's slower paced than your average modern FPS, but that's what makes it Goldeneye :)

Good stuff. B+

I couldn't hold off any longer; I picked this up last night. Played through the first level of the solo campaign and had a lot of fun; very well done. Nice level of controller configuration, though I was disappointed that you can't remap buttons. But the defaults turned out to be just fine. Wiimote + nunchuk only for me; very responsive and fun.

Went online for about an hour and had fun - I didn't see any hackers - and I really enjoyed the black box game mode, it is very cool and a lot of fun.

I'll post more impressions once I put some more time in.

Unfortunately, the hacking is getting worse. In an article from GoNintendo.com, they posted:

"Screwing with online leaderboards in GoldenEye. That's not a very cool thing to do, but at least the hackers weren't ruining the game itself. Well, that's how things were yesterday, but today things are indeed worse.
Now hackers are actually ruining the gameplay as well. Reports of games where everyone has infinite health are coming in, meaning that no lives can be lost and no experience can be gained. Seriously Activision, get on this now! "

My son came over last night and was trying out online multiplayer and the first game he got into, two guys were running the map and no matter how many shots were put into them, they just kept running and killing. The game ended with these two being on top of the score board, one had a 51-0 record and I don't recall what the other one was.

Well, at least there is split screen local.

I played last night with another Atariage member for a couple of hours online. Aside from the technical limitations of the online connnection, the game was fun and hacker free.
