Played through the first level of the solo campaign and had a lot of fun; very well done.

Conduit-like "fun", or real fun? ;)

Anyway, I decided to buy this game as well. The reviews sound positive throughout and considering that it's from the team that did the marvellous Dead Space Extraction, I simply owe those guys checking out their current game :D

This is the best Bond game to come out in a long, long time. As far as FPS' on the Wii? This game tops them all for me personally.

What does everyone think of the difficulty of the game?

I'm playing on the second easiest difficulty and I've had to re-do several missions as deaths can be frequent: Enemies quickly blow apart any cover I hide behind if I stay more than a few seconds (I can't tell you how much glass was flying in the nightclub mission). I think I'm being sneaky as hell by taking out security camera's, subduing guards, and crawling thru air vents only to have sirens start blaring and my mini-map fill with red dot's. One time I was surrounded by multiple thrown grenades and had no place of safety to run to. And on and on.

I'm really having a blast with the game and enjoying the hell out of it. But there are times when I think this game is going out of its way to kill me. And I'm not sure I'll ever be ready for Legendary (or whatever its called) difficulty.

I've been playing on the easiest difficulty and I haven't found it too difficult.

I have found it pretty difficult to avoid being detected - if there are multiple enemies in the area you have to take them all down very quickly to avoid being swarmed.

This looks like it's definitely a must-buy for me. Awesome looking.

Small question about the Gold controller bundle version... Does the game disk come in a standard Wii game case? Or is it in one of those crappy paper envelopes? Just something I was wondering. :ponder:

Like they said, it's in the same regular case you get if you don't get the remote bundle. The game is just inside of another box with the remote.

I'm going to pick up this game on the weekend once payday lands!

Here's a fun little video that was put together. Interesting to show how Goldeneye has aged even compared to what is now on the Wii. There is a pretty substantial visual difference between the two games and I think reviewers criticizing the Wii sometimes get a bit too harsh about Wii's graphics.

I think people have rose colored glasses sometimes and are a little too harsh. I still remember this comment about CONDUIT when it came out:

Quote

what does it say about the Wii that The Conduit doesn't blow Goldeneye's graphics out of the water the way Halo 3 outshines the original Halo or Killzone 2 completely destroys the original Killzone? I don't place the blame on High Voltage at all on this one, though -- they did a great job of squeezing every last drop of performance out of the Wii's tiny, bumblebee-like engine

Final-ish thoughts on GoldenEye, now that I've played most of the way through the campaign and put in about 10 hours of online multiplayer:

-The game is dark. As in, I can't see WTF is going on sometimes. It isn't a big deal, but an occasional annoyance.
-The graphics aren't that great IMO. Most of the overall design is pretty good, and the character models are nice, but I'm not impressed. The Conduit, not to mention Metroid Prime 3, blows GoldenEye away graphically.
-The controls are great - I wish you could remap individual buttons, but it isn't a big deal, the presets are pretty good.
-Level design (in campaign) is very good, lots of alternate routes and possibilities for taking different approaches. There is lots of variety as well, some levels invite lots of stealthy sneaking and some are straight-ahead gunfights from the get-go. Most levels have a bit of both.
-The online multiplayer is pretty fun; I still haven't run into any hackers in a match (though they're all over the leaderboards). I have run into technical issues a bunch - lag is not uncommon, and if the host quits everybody else gets kicked back to the lobby, which sucks. And the game completely froze once - had to unplug the Wii. :| But overall it's a lot of fun; I've been spending most of my time playing Black Box and GoldenEye. I do miss the 12-player matches from The Conduit though...
-The quick-time cut-scenes are pretty stupid, but not a big deal. The game overall is wonderfully cinematic.

I give it   ;)
