How do I get sound to work?

Sound works fine for me. But I'm still using version 0.135

Maybe later MAMEUI revisions screwed up the sound for this game?

BTW, what are your sound settings... I have sample rate set at 48000 and latency set at 2. Although I'm not sure how this would make any difference.

I have MAMEUI for 64-bit v. 0.140

For "Rescue" by Stern (one pixel bullets, anyone?) the sound wont work and theres no notice about sound emulation being incomplete or anything.

Actually i got the sound to work one time i started up the game, but it stopped working again.

Help? :?:

It seems there is a regression that was introduced somewhere after 0.138. Starting in 0.138u2 and through 0.139u1, the game sat at post and would not play. http://www.mametesters.org/view.php?id=3881

A fix was provided to allow the game to play in 0.139u2, but it looks like the sound is now missing. I'll post this on http://www.mametesters.org to make sure it gets logged for fixing.

The sound works fine for me in Rescue, Aponow, and Minefield. I'm using MAMEUI32 0.140u1. Maybe it's the 64-bit version that's doing it?

interesting results after trying ChuckH's solution...only minefield's sound worked, then it went silent again after trying with 32bit MAMEUI.

Well, that's just weird. I tried them again and all three have normal sound. I see they have tagged them as sound not working at MAME testers and confirmed. Maybe Tafoid will chime in with the answer.

Not sure what to say. My main testbed is Windows XP - 32-bit and I never got any audible sound out of it since it broke (way back in 0.138u2). Not sure if the fix to make it boot again caused the sound issue or it's always been there. In my testing of all compiled versions I've made back to 0.139u2 (including development SVN's) do not have any sound effects in game.

I don't test MAMEUI .. so if the problem might be multisession related, I'm not sure. Two other people I've asked about his game do not get any sound out of the game either.

Ok, I've got an idea. Try this rom that I'm attaching. I tried a different Rescue rom and it didn't produce any sound but the one that I have does produce sound. See if it works for anyone else here.

Sorry I tried to attach a file but it doesn't seem to work.

There has not been any romset changes for rescue, minefld or aponow since they were added years ago so a romset cannot be the cause. The rescue and mindfld sets I have still show an original archive date of 2001. I can only assume that your mame versions are confused in some way, you might be using 0.138 instead (which had sound), or something else that cannot be explained fully. Perhaps it is a random bug, but there is most assuredly a bug in code that need to be fixed in any case. I have more information on possible causes in the bug notes:
