Important Note: This weeks competition is over and no further scores will be accepted.

You are Bond. James Bond, 007, the world's most famous secret agent. Renowned for your cool and confidence (not to mention your biting wit), you've been selected by the British Secret Service for three clandestine, utterly critical, and nearly impossible missions.

These will be accomplished at the controls of a specially designed multi-purpose craft that boasts extraordinary capabilities. It has the properties of a car, a plane, and a submarine. And it's equipped with the latest weaponry. We think you'll find it more than adequate.

In brief, Mr. Bond, this is what lies ahead. First stop, Las Vegas in Diamonds Are Forever. No casinos, here. Rather, you've got to cross the desert in the dead of night. A very romantic place, indeed, when you're not being shot at.

In Moonraker, you'll recognize your old nemesis Hugo Drax and his poison satellites. From your position on the lake, you must stop the satellites from ever reaching Earth.
We know you like a change of scenery, Bond, so the next stop is Sardinia in The Spy Who Loved Me. Stromberg's underwater laboratory is your destination in this one. We're confident you'll know just what to do when you reach it.

Good luck, Bond. And Bon Voyage!

Hints and Tips

The Manual

As always, you really should read the manual. In case you don't have the manual, AtariAge has a typed copy available online. It doesn't provide any specific hints, though it does have some pretty in-depth explanations of the levels that should prove helpful.

Scrabbler15

  • On the beginning level, avoid being shot by the enemy that comes out on the left by pushing the joystick left to back up past the enemy. To avoid being shot by the enemy that comes out on the right, push the joystick right at the first opportunity to get out of range. Of course, all this has to be done in conjunction with jumping over the fire.
  • On the water level, the shots at the beginning spread out in the water to kill your guy. Once you get to the frogmen, the shots don't spread out anymore. At that point, only the frog man is the water hazard.
  • The frogman can be hit by first jumping out of the water and then dropping a bomb from mid-air. You have to make sure there are no enemies above your head when you try this.
  • When jumping up to land on the oil rig, pay attention to the ground terrain under the water. Once you find the spot where jumping gets you on the oil rig, this jump can be made successfully, even when the sky is not lit up to show the location of the rig.
  • To land on the rig: Jump straight up, at the highest point push right (to clear the front of the rig), then push left as the ship starts to descend.

I've never seen a James Bond movie, so I had to do a little research and go with an obvious one:

I'll have to see if I have this on my CD-Rom as I don't own this cart.

Since James Bond 007 is not one of my favorite games, my goal is to beat David Yancey's score: only 450 points!!

I don't think I'll be playing this one much. Too many things shooting at me! It's tough to play with computer keys, too.

Don't give up, Miss 2600. It's actually pretty fun...especially when you get into the later levels. Lots of challenge as you progress.

New High Score for me: 19,750! I got up to the 3rd mission.

I'd like to make a suggestion that the game is considered "rolled" when you complete the 3rd mission, regardless of the score. Here's my reasoning:

On the second mission, you don't advance until you destroy three spinning satellites (the pink things that streak across the sky.) You could, in essence, stay on level 2 forever and just rack up points by shooting everything except the satellites.

To show you completed the game, just take a screenshot of your agent rating (it should be 006 on novice...you can only get 007 on the expert level.) Maybe that could be a tie breaker if multiple people complete the novice mission.)

What do you all think?

Here's my James Bond game concept:

007 Mountain Climber - The game takes place on the "For Your Eyes Only" cliff fortess.

James starts the game hanging on the safety rope. The rope is attached to the mountain with ten pitons at different points. The bad guy climbs down the hill and starts banging on the first piton to knock it loose. James swings back and forth (ala Pitfall) and throws pitons up to knock out the bad guy. After a bad guy is knocked out, James uses his shoelace to climb the rope by moving the joystick up and down (ala Decathalon). Then the next bad guy comes out to pound the pitons. If James climbs all the way to the top before all the pitons are gone, the round is cleared (bonus points) and the next round begins with less time for climbing between knocking out bad guys.

Because of low participation index on this 2600 HSC Contest, I would like to recommend highly the following game for the next HSC weeks:
OINK! (Activision).

First my score:

16,500
JamesBond1BB_HSC_8-16.jpg

Then my James Bond game description: Moonraker
It has come to the attention of the British Secret Service that the moon is quite a dirty and disorganized place. They assign their best agent, James Bond, to go tidy things up.

The first stage has James Bond fighting his way up to the moon in a Shuttle craft outfitted with lasers. He uses the lasers to shoot the Aliens vessels that are trying to stop him. The Aliens have learned of Bond's mission and are partial to the way things are on the moon.

The second stage takes place on the moon, provided our hero has survived. On the moon, Bond must destroy the Alien base so he can get to the task at hand without interruption. Bond is equipped with a 9mm pistol and must netralize all the Aliens in the base so he can set it to self destruct.

Once the Alien base is destroyed, Bond can return to the shuttle and aquire the rake that was provided for him. He then begins to rake the moon and the faster he finishes, the more bonus points will be awarded.
