/software_page.html?SystemID=5200&SoftwareLabelID=792We've just added two Atari 5200 binaries to our database that have not seen public distribution before now: Black Belt and Final Legacy. Final Legacy is a port of the released Atari 8-bit game of the same name, and Black Belt is a demo of a Karateka-like game that was never released. To view screenshots and download the binaries for each game, please visit our Black Belt and Final Legacy pages.

They both look cool.

Where did you find them? How did you get them?

The binaries were supplied to use by anonymous parties who simply wanted them publically released and enjoyed by all. :)

Cool! I used to play lots of Final Legacy on my 1200XL. It was a decent game.

Final Legacy is no surprize, given its 8-bit existence, but Black Belt is interesting. A working 8-bit cart version of "Bruce Lee" was discovered at an Atari office and of course they released Broderbund's Karateka. So apparently Atari was trying to decide what fighting game was best for the 800/5200 lines. Too bad they just didn't license World Champ Karate. :ponder:

Are you sure about that? I've never heard that before. I know Ndary was selling a cart version, but I assume he made that hack himself.

Incidentally an early working name for Black Belt was Martial Arts.

Now if only some other anonymous parties would release those 5200 protos they're sitting on... *Cough* Tumbleweeds *Cough*

IIRC, Nir's binary was a dump of a cart that Brad Koda found. Nir, please correct if this is wrong.

Looks cool, though I still want 7800 Missing in Action to be released.

From Best Electronics Website:

Atari Bruce Lee Prototype 8 bit Atari XE Cartridge

These Atari Bruce Lee Prototype Cartridges were found in a Large box that came right out of the Old Atari Lombard, Illinois Warehouse as they were shutting it down!

These Atari XE series Unreleased Prototype Game cartridges did not have labels on them when they were found. The label you see is a high quality Digital picture of the 1st boot up screen on the Prototype Bruce Lee Cartridge.

This Atari Prototype 8 Bit Cartridge is programmed on the Atari XE series of Bank Selecting Game cartridges, where the Atari Programmer's could get a whole 5 1/4 Disk based game and more on one XE Bank Selecting Atari Game Cartridge. It will run on All Atari 8 bit computers with more than 32K of memory!
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prototype Feature's:

Option: 1 Player - 2 Player

Select: Computer - Opponent

Top Score

Bruce Lee Oriental Music on Boot Screen

Fight Action sounds during play

Short Demo Mode

4 - 9 Falls/Life's per screen in 2 Player Mode

4 - 9 Falls/Life's per screen in 1 Player mode
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. How many total Levels are there?

A. I can not tell, I can not get past the first two screens (I not a very good Player). Prototype seems to be Complete, with full Graphics / Sounds, fully functional and ready for production release!

Q. Is there a Owners Manual for the Bruce Lee Prototype XE Game?

A. None was found in the Box.

Supplied in a plastic bag, Screen Shot label, no instructions

Price: $34.95

Was making the word 'proto' plural a mistake or could you be referring to more than one unleased proto..... *Cough* like Tumbleweeds *Cough* ?

Do you guys know if these roms just released are the same versions that are on Sean Kelly's multicart? I just played Final Legacy on that cart and it's a pretty good game. I couldn't get Black Belt to start, it just stayed on the first castle screen.

They should be the same versions, AFAIK there is only one version of each. Black Belt won't work of VSS, you'll have to use Win800.

OK, I've tried Black Belt in three different emulators and also burned it to an EPROM and I still can't get it to do anything. I can select different levels but as soon as I press "start" it hangs. So, what am I missing?

I've got it working in AtariWinPlus 3.1, the game starts after pressing '0' on my number pad. Then I just use the keypad buttons to kick in the air. You're not missing much ;)

So, I'm not sure why yours is hanging, did you try this emu?

OK, I got it now. You have to hit "start" and then "0" on the keypad. You're right, not too exciting without collision detection. I hopped through all of the rooms and turned it off.

Tempest, Black Belt works fine in VSS 80 for me. Are you using an older version?

Ron J Fortier programmed not only the above Bruce Lee but 5200/8bit Zaxxon as well. Non sequitor of the day...

I never tried pressing 0 to get to the next screen, I'll have to try that.
