I have a Tekken 5 arcade controller for the ps2. Big beast that's well built and perfect for playing arcade games. I have a few collections for the PS1 and had the bright idea of getting a ps2/ps3 controller adapter so I could plug it into the system. Problem is, when I try to play ps1 games, the games default to digital and apparently the controller is analog (or vice versa). Since it has no PS button to get into the menu to change the setting or an analog button on the controller itself, the joystick doesn't work.

Has anyone come up against this or have ideas about a work around?

I have the same problem with PS2 games\collections.

To play PS2 games on a PS3 you need to push down the PS button on the controller when the PS2 game loads to enable the joystick. One thing you can try is connect the Tekken stick on the PS3 and then load the PS2 game with the normal PS3 controller and then hit the PS button to enable it.
Then hit the PS button on the controller again and assign it another number or turn it off. Basically trying to trick it.

Sometimes if you play around you can get it to work. I have a Legacy Engineering Atari joystick that I use to play the Namco games on the PS3 by doing the above.

Ah, this brings back memories. I had the same problems with analog PS2 controllers with PS1 games. They don't work, and some of the arcade sticks are set up this same way for some odd reason, despite not actually using the analog function. The only workaround I found was to buy a PS1 stick (The old yellow-buttoned Namco sticks are excellent) or a PS2 stick that was compatible. If anyone has any other fix, I'd be curious to know what it is.
