This last week I've been really digging into Mario Kart Wii. I've finished all the races in 1st place except for the 150cc Special Cup. I've been doing just fine up until these last two (150cc Special and Lightning cups) and now I seem to be getting creamed by all the other racers. Not only do they seem to be twice as fast as I am, but I'm constantly getting POWed, Shelled, and knocked off into the water/lava. If I'm ever in 1st place for more than a second I'm immediately blue shelled without exception. I know these last races are supposed to be tough, but it almost seems like the computer is cheating all of the sudden. Any tips on how to beat these last races? I've been using King Boo or Peach on a standard bike.

I ran into the same problem. It went from very easy to ridiculously hard. I got tired of getting pissed off so I stopped playing it.

Yeah that's pretty much what I did. I got second on that last race and I think I'll stop there and move onto something else. I don't think you get anything for coming in first on all the races anyway.

Yup, don't sweat over it. You're right, the computer is cheating. That's where the fun ends, unless you've got friends to play with & snub that CPU.

Did you get the SkyNet Edition? If so, the computer learns at a geometric rate, then eventually takes over the world with a army of Robot Marios. The only logical solution is not to play.

Well, for one thing, learn the ins and outs of bikes first. Selection matters a great deal. Use a gamecube or classic controller. Play over and over and you will get lucky. There are people out there who have 3 stars on everything. But yes, the game is full of "rubberbanding" and other cheatish-mechanics, and is frustratingly interrupt-y (one hit means you get combo'ed on, essentially). You get a mini turbo timed off the redrop by lekitu, if you didn't know that.

As a sub-mechanic of the rubberbanding, you'll notice the computer almost instantly recovering from spinouts caused by your attacks, making it nearly worthless to attack. Cheap!

What about the blooper ink thing? any effect at all on computer opponents? probably not.. this is just like when Blanka got to spam that roll attack without charging it. ARG

since those attacks are useless as mentioned - a single banana or a single shell is best left hanging off your butt. just press and hold the button instead of releasing - it'll CYA. blocks don't work though, as their blast radius hits you too.

Edit: this also means that you can pick up another powerup, since the one you're holding on to has been "used" already. So you could have one red shell on your butt and three around you.

I haven't played this because I didn't care for holding the controller like a steering wheel. It wasn't responsive enough. I'll have to try using the classic controller instead.

Huge difference. The motion control isn't awful, it's fun, it works, but it's not going to get you those stars.
