Anyone play Save Mary and/or Shooting Arcade yet? I would love to know is they are worth the 100$ it would take to review them.

So, any takers? Or are we all just fakers?

I think it fits better in the Atari 2600 Forum, because they are both for Atari 2600 VCS.

I can maybe try them on Emulator.

The ROMs can be found here on the site:

Save Mary
Shooting Arcade

So you can try it yourself. :)

They are 2600 games but the only way to get them on a cart currently is on 7800 boards here:

Matty, I think he's referring to the ones that Atari7800.com is releasing for the 7800 system. Check out the thread about "new games at atari7800.com". I believe they are the same games just "tweaked" (techie lingo there) to work and look better on a 7800.

CV, I've been building a complete 7800 library for a year now I think I'm down to about 10 carts left to go but I would need more reassurances and reviews before I bought any carts from atari7800.com. I guess I just haven't liked their business model or prices yet. So maybe like you, I was waiting to see if anyone had good experiences with them or these 2 games before purchase.

The interesting thing to me is, that everyone here loves the 7800, but no one has played these two games. I'm just curious if they are worth a pee. I would love to support the efforts of 7800.com but their products are waaaaaaaaaay outta my price range fo' me.

I've played both on the 7800. Save Mary is really very addictive... probabally just as much as Tetris if not more so. The graphics are nice as compared to what we are used to seeing on the 2600 and the sound is supurb. It's really a great game, I hope everyone else will think so too.

Shooting Arcade is a different story. If you are reffering to playing the actual cartridge on a real-life 7800 system, Shooting Arcade has a few bugs which came up at the very end of production. The graphics are alright, nothing spectacular though. The light gun works wonderfully on it (so long as you have a good condition light gun) and there are no oddities as far as screen layout, collision detection, etc as you might find on other prototype games. The problem we ran into came with the board layout, not the game its self. But that is being fixed right now. At the moment, you can only play three screens. This is why they havent been sent out.

Todd Frye did a great job on both of these games over at Axlon, Nolan's company after he left Atari. If anybody with any accredited Atari gaming website or publication wishes to review these games, I will talk to the other party involved in getting these games made and see if we cant come up with a few loaner cartridges to send out to other venues for review.

Now somebody must have bought these games they were released
quite a while ago. What about a review of the bug fixed Impossible
Mission? I've already got the original version, its great but I am curious
as to how it really ends.

Well it's true, these games have been available for quite some time to roms to download and play on emulators. Both Save Mary! and Shooting Arcade is available here on Atari Age for play... so you guys can review those yourself.

As far as our production of these games go, there are a few floating around out there anonymously, but production has taken longer than we had hoped. Save Mary is out there in the hands of a few people. Shooting Arcade, as I said, needs a board fix and we are working on that. The Impossible Mission fix is playable but we have not put that into production yet.

BTW, the Impossible Missions are *NOT* Pirated games. They are fixes. They will be transplanted into original, brand new Impossible Mission cartridges. We dont have any plans to do any "pirating" of these games, so these will be available in a very limited quantity. The other Atari vendor we are working with may put some out as well.

Best,

Both Save Mary and Shooting Arcade work in the Cuttle Cart in my 2600.

2600 Save Mary is a great game! I actually do play it every now and then! I first played it at Cinciclassic 1998 where Dan __ had a proto for show and play. I still do not know what the L/R bonus items are for ..

2600 Shooting Arcade is great also .. (and nicer than Sentinel which I find is strange and colorless!) But I have only seen two screens when playing this gem. I don't know if there is a problem with playing this one on the cuttle. Supposidly there are more screens?

The Atari light gun is ok .. but the SMS light gun is better. I use an adapter that I wired up to use the SMS gun with Atari equipment.
