First JagForumpost |:) . Picked up a Jag here in Sweden for about $10 with Aliens vs. Predator Wolfenstein and some others + one controller. Now when I fire it up, the Jag roars, red titlescreen lights up, from there I canīt go anywhere. Could it be a broken controller? Because the systemlight and screen looks good, itīs just that I canīt play...

Is there some common Jaguar issues that I donīt know about, or simply a crappy controller?

hi !

When you start the jaguar, the screen should be black with a red jaguar logo...maybe bad contacts between the cart & the jag.

Yeah, it should roar and then a Red Jaguar logo should zoom in. The screen should stay black, if it goes RED it hasn't detected the Cart properly, try blowing on the edge of the cart and in the Jag slot and try again.

This usualy sorts it out for me.

probably just dust/dirt on the contacts.

Yes, that's a common problem when the cart edge oxidizes. Clean it with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab. I wouldn't recomend blowing on it. That will make it work for the short term but make it worse over the long run.

Clean the cart contacts in the carts and the Jag. That will fix it!

out of curiosity. Why does blowing on the contacts make it worse?

Blowing on carts is bad due to the moisture in your breath.

Thanks everyone! My brand new used Jaguar is running smothly after some cleaning of carts and stuff.

Is there a replacement connector for the Jag available, like for the NES and itīs notoroius blinking problems?

I typically "clean" my cartridge systems by inserting and removing a cartridge several times (with the power off, of course). That usually rubs off enough oxidation to get stuff to boot.

Some cartridge ports are better made than others. The Jaguar, Colecovision, and NES sometimes have a problem with not making good contact every time. I never have this problem with Genesis, SNES, N64, or VCS cartridges.

Humidity makes a difference. Don't blow on your cartridge connectors. Use compressed air instead, if you feel the need to squirt air on something.
