Is there any information about how the tower decides what to give you (ie. any formulas/calculations published?)

Nice artwork! I am unfamiliar with this game so I ran a search. I only found references to a board game - which looks quite interesting. Was it ever converted to a video game format for any system?

a Prototype game for the Vectrex was called Dark Tower, and it has a similar logo. Maybe its from the same series? I haven't played the board game, but in the Vectrex game, you wander around a forest opening chests that either give you gold, or teleport you to a demon lair that only few can escape.

some of you hit it right on the head...
I would love to have the Milton Bradly board game adapted to the Atari Lynx. even as a one player game against the computer...it is still fun. the challenge for this...how awesome would it be if it could link up with other players and other Lynx systems. man that would be awesome!

also... there is a java version as someone mentioned. it was done very well. visit a site called well of souls or something like that. that should pull it up. it also gave the source codes for it. if i ever programmed a game for the lynx...it would be this sucker! lol

thank you for the comments on the artwork. it was something i threw together last night before i started tackling the EOTB manual a bit more

When I'm done working on my current project, I actually would like to start some strategic game myself. But I was thinking of something in the sense of Fire Emblem / Ogre Tactics / Advance Wars / FF Tactics.

I found some Flash game of this board game, but I really don't understand how it works. Guess I should take some time to figure it out.

the concept of Dark Tower is fairly simple. the tower controls your turns. the game board is broken into 4 sections or territories. you start the game in your own territory.

the goal of the game is to find three keys and storm the Dark Tower to kill off the brigades of bad dudes. you won't find a key in your territory so you go to the other territories and go to each section until a key is found. you have to make sure you feed your troops, buy more soldiers, and other fun stuff.

once you find the three keys...you go back to your territory and prepare to storm the tower. you have to unlock which order the keys go first...then you start a battle with the Tower.

it is just a simple and fun game. it would be great for the Lynx

Sounds like a day of work  j/k. But sounds like an intriguing and very doable project. You should've posted this a year ago, and I probably would have given it a shot instead of trying to implement Gomoku on the Lynx (which turned out to be a huge waste of time..). For now and the next many months I'm probably occupied with my big project.

The game was published as "Marnon" in Germany by Schmidt Spiele back in the eighties.
it also was published as "Wizards Quest" i think. Its Risk Like with a touch of tactics and non-player controled enemies.

That's just stupid - it will never sell. They typically go for $100 - $200, depending on condition...

And I just realized - I have this game for my Vectrex! (I have the 72 - 1 cart) I think I'm going to have to fire that bad boy up and get some vector goodness...
