I need some Gamecube controllers for my Wii as well as some memory cards.
Anyone recommend any particular websites/stores to pick some new ones up relatively cheap?

Are there any good wireless models?

I've seen the Rocketfish™ - Wireless Controller for Nintendo GameCube and Nintendo Wii at Best Buy for $17.99 but the reviews aren't so positive.

EDIT: Corrected title from "Gamecute" to "Gamecube" - What was I thinking?!?

I believe the (wireless) WaveBird is the gold standard GameCube controller, everybody seems to swear by them - I've never used one. They aren't new and they fetch a premium used, though.

And: Gamecute. :lolblue: It's funny 'cuz it's true.

If you have a Play 'n Trade near you, give them a try. My local PnT stocks everything, including controllers & memory cards, for systems from the Atari2600 to the current consoles. And they are reasonably priced, also.

Play Asia also sells a Wii-White colored GameCube controller for $29 (I have two and they are GREAT). I've dealt with PA several times in the past and have had only good experiences.

Memory cards are expensive and somewhat harder to find. Cheapest official new one at Play Asia is $25, with a Datel priced at $19.

If you use a Gamecube controller on the Wii, don't forget to get this adapter to play your Atari and Arcade games with a real Atari joystick!

Hmm. I'm not doing too bad on controllers for my Gamecube(s) but I guess I should consider getting a couple more cards for it. There are some local places around here that have a very limited selection of them new, but admittedly a little more pricey than 25 (but not by much)

After taking into account things like shipping, etc, the prices might be comparable...

I have the Thrustmaster T-Wireless controller which I could only get via eBay. It's good but, depending on your needs, you might be better off to go for a Wavebird, if you can find one.

The T-Wireless is excellent, fits in the hands well, good battery life, and unlike the Wavebird, it has rumble. My only complaint is that mine lasted about two months and now the left thumbstick has a little bit of floatiness in it. If I move forward with it and then take my thumb off the stick, my character tends to keep moving forward but only sometimes.

So the durability might not be on par with the Wavebird.

Then again I was really pushing the sticks to the max with both Tatsunoko vs Capcom as well as playing Hulk Ultimate Destruction (GameCube) with it so maybe I put it through tougher moves than you will.

IF you have a store called 5 Below close by you, they have some good GC controllers for $5. Basically it is a Dollar store, but everything is $5 or below. I got 4 from them. Work great.

I actually like the pelican accessories controller, it's almost the same as the stock stick, but it's a little fatter which is better for my hands. The cards seem all a like to me.

Last I was at walmart, they actually did have gamecube controllers, buy some mystery offbrand (advertised specifically for working on the Wii, but it was a cube controller) for like $20 I can't vouch for them, but they look like the same as the Nintendo branded ones. Your local store may have stock still, since it works on both systems, it's still relevant.

I love that store. I am in the Cleveland area and have one right up the street. They have some really good stuff! They have PS2 controllers as well for $5.

Wow, I've been meaning to get into that store for a while now, ever since they had Mad World advertised in their circular for $5, but just haven't been able to make the time. Seeing this has convinced me though. I'm making a quick stop after work!

I just bought a $5 Gamecube controller from Five Below. It's a fairly detailed knock-off of Ninty's original design, but I had to open it up because the "A" button wouldn't fire without REALLY pressing down. Re-adjusting the rubber button pads on the circuit board seemed to fix it.

BTW - The packaging says "rumble feature" for feedback, but my controller had no rumble motor. The casing was molded for a rumble motor, just no rumbler installed. Oh well.

I also have the Pelican Wireless GC controller, but it eats batteries quickly. Seems like every other time I want to use it, I have to swap batteries. Hence the reason for buying the wired controller.

The Nintendo cards are the best, but later MadCatz and Nyko memory cards do well too.

I have a half dozen of the 4x MadCatz Memory Cube cards from late in the gen--they are solid plastic (not transparent or translucent) with a small cube embossed at the top near the port, the logo is painted on, and they have ridged finger grips on the sides. They came in bright colors--we have green, pink, blue, and orange. I think they had a white one as well. We have had them from 4-6 years and no problems. Target clearanced 'em out cheap a few years back, and I regret not buying a cart full of them to save for gifts.

I also have a 128 Mb Nyko Memory Card. Its Black with a red rubberized square in one corner and a white Nyko logo. Finger ridges on sides, and one corner is cut off, Wii style. Had it for 4 years, never had a problem.

If you need wireless, get a Wavebird. If you don't have the money now, pick one up from Gamestop when you can afford one--they usually have one laying around. They are very, very well made, very durable, and well engineered. Damn shame the big N did not give them rumble.

If you have a Play N' Trade around, they tend to have a wide selection of cards--they are the best place to buy Sony branded PS2 cards for a reasonable price.

Of all the stores, Family Dollar in my town sells white GC/Wii controllers for $10 a piece. These days, Family Dollar stores are everywhere, so these are not difficult to come by...

What's the story with that 'Wiikey' that's shown in Nathanallan's post above. No real description on that site, but it looks as though it's an SD adapter for the Gamecube memory slot? Is that right, and if so does it work on the actual Gamecube (and not just the Wii)?

It ought to; they made them for the gamecube before the Wii came out and I don't see any reason it wouldn't work.
