If you're reading this and thinking about joining in please do so, it's fun and we have all abilities of player. If you need any help or have any questions please get in touch. Checkout the Beginners Guide for more details. :)

Voting Closes Sun 30th Jan 10am GMT

Links to games on atarimania:
Bounty Bob Strikes Back
*Think this requires 64K though ROM version will run on any atari 16K+ (if you're lucky enough to own it.)
Dropzone
*See NTSC comments on Atarimania - can someone test and report back please?
Pooyan
Dark Chambers
Oil's Well

(There are other sites with XEX and ATR versions of most games, again checkout the beginners guide).

Voting
This season only the 2nd place game(s) go on to the next vote. The others will go back in the pile and may re-appear in later votes. I'll try and keep a variety of games in each vote.

Additional Rules
If you don't have the game that wins a vote you can play another game from your collection, preferably one new to the HSC. You will be awarded 2 points providing you make a few comments about the game (like a mini game review) and whether you think the game would make a good HSC game or not.

There's a perfect emulated version of BBSB by the original author for Windows XP floating around out there for free download. I don't know if that would count, but it is the original ROM running on a PC. It may work for those without the super rare cart, a pirate version, or 64k.

I voted for Dark Chambers, but it looks like BBSB is winning. It's too bad, that's the one 8-bit game that doesn't work on an emulator.

Regarding Dropzone...

It's night and day between playing the game on NTSC vs PAL . It really is tuned specifically for PAL machines. I used to play this game growing up in the UK and it was one of my top 5... When I moved to the US and pulled it out to play I thought maybe I had just forgotten how to play, or maybe I just wasn't as good as I remembered... Then after I got my PAL system setup with a multisystem TV I decided to give it one more try, and lo and behold it was the great game I remembered it as.

There are a number of factors, but if I were to give one, the difficulty level playing on PAL is just right, a nice balance between game play and skill required. on NTSC the difficulty factor changes to the point that you die far to easily and it's frustrating...

that said, I have a PAL machine so lets have at it :D

I probably should have defined what I meant. The problem is that in the "Utility Hoist" level, you can't control the hoist. It's a weird glitch that only happens when you play it on an emulator.

That's probably because Utility Hoist is the second level. ;)

Re BBSB there is a dodgy version out there re the utility hoist (screen 2) - I think it's the one with the added 'cheat'/loading screen, it's not an emulator issue. I have a version that works ok from one of the sites, if the one posted above doesn't work let me know :)

p.s. Dropzone link fixed - perhaps try the later Americana release here on NTSC also :?: If not the looks like the US are missing out on two of the best A8 Games Dropzone and Zone X - now there's a project for someone ;)

All versions are Bollocks on NTSC iron, the americana release is just the budget version of the US Gold version (I have both releases in my collection)

Hey The Real Bounty Bob,

Let one thing be clear (hehehe): I'm not going to hack/disassemble/reprogram AGAIN a game. So please let us chose one that WORKS from scratch.

And that is

Oils Well

Please vote ALL for that one. It is so much fun! Really. You HAVE to give it a try! Honest!
