Anyone know if the PS2 chip is built into the slim? A friend of mine told me he read somewhere that it is. I'm in the middle of fixing a slim and xfering data from it to a 60GB model and then he tells me the slim has it but its just being blocked. Kind of changes my opinion on the whole BC removal issue.

Your friend is wrong. The PS3 Slim was completely redesigned to save money. Putting an unnecessary chip on it wouldn't save money.

There's also this...which hints at an oldskool-type "adapter" someday becoming available (the adapter functionally being a complete PS2 itself, minus the A/V output). Dunno how legit the story is.

However, the current dope from Sony is that B/C is completely dumped. PS3 games are selling the system well enough without it.
