My Lynx II has dust behind its screen, most of it is impossible to see but there are several large bits in it that are very visible and annoying when I am playing. I read on another site that the black plastic piece on the front of the system surrounding the screen can be removed but the site gave zero instruction on how to do so. Can anyone point me in the direction of a site with instructions(preferably with photos illustrating the process) on how to clean out dust that accumulated under the screen?

No site link, but I opened mine up from the back, removed the board and display, then used compressed air to clean it. It's pretty obvious how to open it up once you peel away the rubber grips to unscrew the unit. There is also one screw in the center of the battery compartment...

Is that really the best way? I read that the screen can some how be easily popped off, unfortunately site didn't say how. Do the rubber grips just pop out or will I need to re glue them or anything if I use your method?

There is a much easier way. I posted a guide how to do it for somebody else here not so long ago but you will have to do a search for it.

Cool - I just checked it out. However, be SUPER careful when popping the screen off, it's insanely easy to break the clips on the frame side when removing the screen. I broke one on my parts Lynx doing this. If it was my "good" one, I'd take it way slower...

Yikes! I'm scared to try this now as mine is in spectacular condition and it would be a real shame to wreck it. :(

Well I can now confirm that disassembling the Lynx (II) is indeed as easy as it has been described several times on this board and elsewhere, also with photographic help (thanks!).
You need an ordinary screwdriver and 10 minutes - maybe no more than 5 minutes all in all the next time to loose the 5 screws and to clean the screen from dust with the very same piece opf cloth you use for your glasses and to reassemble the Lynx back to its original (cleaner) working condition :)
There is no "hurdle" like when you deal with Nintendos or the Sega Game Gear because there an ordinarily equipped household all of a sudden is hindered by a screw of an unusual format or something else like this. No. The Lynx is extremely userfriendly in this respect, too.

How do you get the rubber grips off? Looking at mine they seem to be pretty firmly attached and I'm afraid to just start pulling on them and risk tearing them. :( How do they re attach, did you have to glue them or anything?

Go read my guide that is linked above :P

They are just held on with double sided tape, use a knife or flat screwdriver to just prise them off.

They were not or no more firmly attached to mine, I have found no glue or anything underneath them, they just snapped off and as easily back on.

I did read it back when I'd first made this. I was just a bit uneasy about taking something sharp to them to get them off. I was actually trying to find a busted one on ebay I could take apart as practice first before I blew all my money on a Jag. lol I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to taking apart things when I'm not sure how easy they'll go back together. but I might just toughen up and give it a shot. :P
