When I open Visual Batari Basic the only things that work are file, edit, view, and build.

Sounds about right. The next step is to create something ;) I recommend RT's vbB to help get you started.

My apologies, allow me to be more specific. I've created (and loaded) a project, afterwards things like double-clicking default.bas or creating playfeilds and sprites don't work.

This is actually covered in Post #1
  • If you're having trouble using the sprite/playfield editor go here for a registry fix.

I followed the instructions and it didn't work, so then it said to "open regedit", and I don't know what that is.

Close Visual bB. Double Click the .reg file. If it asks if you want to do this, click yes. Make sure you don't an A/V program blocking registry changes. Reopen Visual bB. If it doesn't work, you're running something that blocks editing the registry and/or you aren't a local administrator.

1. Open up the .reg file with a text editor.
2. Go from Start->Run and then type regedit
3. Using the Regisry Editor browse to the hive and make sure the settings in the registry match the .reg file, if not manually make the changes

Try vbB again.

Okay, unless those quotation marks matter, the settings match, and now Vbb works for a little bit, maybe, a minute, and then freezes up.Also, and I just noticed this, (Default) says (value not set), is that a problem?

Please describe freezing up. Are you in the middle of some action when it happens. If you post a screen shot perhaps we all get a better idea of the problem you're having.

Here you go. The things I clicked on did open this time, but it was really delayed, not that you can't see. As far as I know, there isn't any specific action that triggers it, and as I mentioned in the first post, the things at the very top work just fine.

Everything looks correct. Load times will depend on the speed of your computer. Slower models are simply going to take longer. I have a dual core 32-bit laptop and most items, with the exception of long pieces of code, load in less than a second. If you disable color coding in your settings tab, code should open instantly. If you get an error message be sure to post it, otherwise I'd say it's functioning as expected.

I have yet to get any error messages, but disabling color coding didn't seem to do anything, do you know any other ways to speed Vbb up?

Are you running this on a netbook or something really old?

If your computer is slow, do you also have Enable Syntax Checking turned off? If you have that and color coding turned off, it should speed things up.

It's been turned off, and it's still incredibly slow.

That is your problem. A single core Intel Atom processor was not meant for software development. I also have one of those and if I'm doing anything other than browsing the web it's damn slow. Sorry you'll need a real laptop to get any performance. You're probably out of memory by the time vbB loads.

Well darn, I guess I'll just have type everything out manually, and then assemble it in dasm, huh? Anyways, I appreciate the help, be seeing you around the forums.
