Like some people bought the Genesis for "Sonic" or the PS1 for "Final Fantasy VII".

And did you fail to find anything else worth playing?

I don't usually buy a system unless there are at least 10 must have games i want. I have broken this rule a couple of times (game gear - 3 games; Snes 6 games) but only once have i bought a system for only 1 game.

and yes afterwards i found lots of other fun games, Rogue squadron 3 for example.

honestly if not for rogue squadron i would not have bought a GC.

I bought a Nuon only for Tempest 3000. Turned out that I liked Merlin Racing more. And those were about all I found on the system.

More recently I bought a PS3 just for playing Gran Turismo 5 (though I bought it a couple years early because of the delays). There has been some good stuff on PS3.

I bought a Neo Geo MVS 'just' to play King of Fighters '99. No end to the good carts for it, but it was KoF '99-only machine for the first few years I had it.

Like many, Super Mario Bros 1 is why I bought an NES. Loads of other good games there too.

I did just buy a Sega CD so I can play Pier Solar with the enhanced cd, but there are a lot of games on want for the Sega CD as well. Beyond that, I got the PSX for FF7, and bought many other games for it later. The rest I bought due to an interest in a broader selection of games.

There are alot of good games on the Jag and quite I few that I consider to be better than Tempest 2000 so I think alot of people are missing out.

I bought an Atari 8-Bit just to play Star Raiders 2.

I typically won't buy a system until there are at least 5 solid games for it. The point being that I don't want to spend more on a system than on the games for it. I caved when it came to the PSP which had Castlevania - Dracula X Chronicles. I totally failed to find anything else worth playing on that thing, though. And even though I already own the Sega Genesis compilation on PS2, I also bought it for PSP so ole Drac wouldn't feel so lonely. The sad thing is, except for Rondo of Blood, all of the games could be played on other systems so basically I paid $120 to play Rondo of Blood. Not a good value.

I bought the following systems for one must-have game but ended up finding metric shit tons of other good stuff too...
- a Genesis for Golden Axe since I played it a lot in the arcade. Altered Beast was a nice bonus too.
- a SuperNES for Zelda: A Link to the Past. My brother and I actually bought the game before we owned the system.
- a Lynx for Warbirds (Xybots also helped sway that vote)
- a SegaCD for Dracula (hey, it looked cool in the magazines!)
- a PlayStation for Final Fantasy VII (yeah, I'm one of them: officially a statistic now; my brother was more into it but I aided and abetted); Gran Turismo was a close second.
- a GameCube for Rogue Squadron II, which I found a little disappointing after playing X-Wing and TIE Fighter on the Mac

I didn't buy my first Atari 2600, but I convinced my parents to get one, believe it or not, because of Donkey Kong and Combat. My brother and I had a total frickin' blast playing those games way back when.

Back when I worked at Montomery Ward (late teens), I fell in love with Alien Crush for the TG-16. Bought the system just for that game. Of course, loved most everything else that came out for it since.

Wanted the Amiga even before it was released, but bought an A1000 soon after I had seen the incredible NewTek demo. Umm, like made the purchasing decision the same day I saw that demo in fact. lmao

Bought the SNES for Mario IV. Loved soooo many other games since then. Castlevania, Contra, Final Fantasy, Chronotrigger, Side Pocket, etc.

Bought the Jaguar for all of its promising game titles, which were really starting to suck before Tempest and AvP came out.

Bought the Gamecube because of Rogue Squadron. Liked only a few after that. Mario Kart I guess and I really can't remember too many of the others. Gottlieb pinball collection too.

Bought an XBox for the new Panzer Dragoon game, but can't remember too many others I thought were worth a damn besides maybe a driving game or too. I played a lot of Panzer Dragoon, I know that. By the time XBox, Gamecube & Dreamcast came out, my video game interests were starting to wane big time.

Bought an N64 for Mario64. Loved Mario Kart64, Shadows of the Empire, Rush 2049, Cruisin' USA and a few others.

Bought a Wii for its bundle of freebies (and then soon got rid of the thing). I did like the Star Trek military strategy game and Mario Kart of course. Had the 2-3 pinball collections for it and I can't remember what all else. This system and its cartoony look and floaty cursor feel got old real quick with me.

Bought a PS1 back in the day for Battle Arena Toshinden that featured Sophie, yay! Return Fire was fun as was Destruction Derby. I know I bought a handful of other games for it, but can't think of 'em right now. Nothing too memorable obviously. lol

Bought a PS2 recently for Guitar Hero. I have a bunch of games for it now, but would never have pursued anything else without the GH series. I have a HD in my system and most all of my games fit on 120GB. If I didn't have the HD, I'd probably tolerate the system even less as I hate load times and CD based gaming in general.

Bought the original Gameboy for Tetris. Pretty much hated every other game for it after that. lol

Bought the Saturn for Daytona USA and the promise of all the other great games for it like Duke Nukem 3D, Bomberman and more online stuff.

Bought an original NES back in the day for Mario Bros./Duck Hunt and the cool robot toy thing. Super Mario 2 and 3 rocked as well as only a few others though. Contra of course. Zelda, Pinbot. Didn't care for that many more games though, hate to say.

Bought a Commodore 64 back in the day for Pinball Construction Set and Sammy Lightfoot.

Bought a Sega Master System for Parlour Games and some of the cool RPG's for it at the time. Y's, etc.

Bought a 32X for its promise and Virtua Racing. haha

Don't remember why I bought an Atari Lynx to be honest. Didn't care for most of the games or its washed out blurry screen. I did think it would be nice to game on the go, but I never cottoned to portable gaming. Wait, I do remember thoroughly enjoying Rampart on the Lynx Wanted to love Elvira's Pinball - but talk about blur city!

I did purchase a new TurboExpress though from TZD back in the mid 90's, only because it could play my awesome TG-16 library. But, alas... never got much use and I was too anal about my gaming to want to take my HuCards, let alone that system, out and about. Screen is waaaaaay too damn small too, even though the contrast and clarity is vastly superior to the Lynx.

I originally bought the Genesis for the NHL games. Couldn't have cared less about Sonic games. Then I fell in love with the Road Rash series and Rampart. Pretty much my favorite games during the Genesis heyday. To this day there aren't a lot of Genesis games that interest me.

Like Save2600, I also originally bought the TG-16 for Alien Crush but also fell in love with Military Madness and Blazing Lazers. (Didn't get Galaga 90 until a couple years ago)

Funny enough I just sold it this week as I just didn't fall for it like I did with the other Atari machines and it was just gathering dust and taking up alot of space in my flat.

Good topic discussion... only made me realize just how many systems I bought "just because".

Atari 2600 - I guess Space Invaders, Combat, and Adventure would be the reason with "Adventure" being the main reason. Although oddly enough one of the first games I got was "Missile Command".

Amiga - Defender Of The Crown. At the time this game just totally blew me away. I was in my strategy game phase at this time. So games I played on the Amiga were Simcity, Simcity 2000, Empire II, Lemmings and a bunch of other strategy games.

Intellivision - I picked up one of these way past it's prime (III?). Anyways no particular game but Diner, Tower Of Doom, Tron Deadly Discs and Utopia were some of my favs.

Sega Game Gear - For Sonic alone.. turns out I don't really much like SGG games that much.

Genesis - For the Sonic 2 pack in. Never really played much outside of the Sonic games.

SNES - For Super Mario Allstars and Zelda: A Link To The past.

GBA - Bought this because I was impressed with the specs. To bad the screen and most of the games sucked. Big dissapointment. I still even have the one I bought.

GBA SP - Much better screen but I didn't get for any particular game.

DS - Got it to just get it. Mario 64 DS was one of the first game. Got alot of use out of Nintendogs and Animal Corssing.

N64 - Mario 64... (wha?)... yeah didn't even touch Golden Eye for another year or 2 which I regretted cause it's a great game. However I did get ALOT of use out of my N64 compared to other systems.

Dreamcast? - Just because I wanted one. I suppose one could say Sonic Adventure (not a big fighting game fan).. but I did get soul calibur as well.

Gamecube - ok.. Go ahead and throw me in the Rogue Squadron crowd since none of the other system release games were that great. Other than that I was pretty meh about the GC.

PS1 - No particular games.. Just got this cause I noticed that some pc based games were coming out for it. Never really got much use out of it. Some games I got enjoyment out of was "Die Hard Trilogy", "Castlevanie", "Croc". Although now though I've been having fun going thru my PS1 stuff.

PS2 - No particular reason and never really used it all much. But like the PS1 above I've been having fun going thru all my PS2 stuff I grabbed from bargain bins over the years.

Xbox - Same.. no particular reason. I was mostly expecting this to be hacked and people to run homebrew on it. Although I did have alot of fun with the Halo series, even to this day.

Wii - Why Wii sports of course! Actually I picked up the Zelda Twilight on the release of this and it marked the first Zelda game that I actually played thru to completion.

360 - I guess one could say I got this for Halo, although at the time I was hoping it would be hacked like the Xbox and wanted an early system for that reason. Games I really enjoyed were Gears Of War 1 & 2, Rainbow Six Vegas, Halo 3, Oblivion. Plus lots of GH and RB.

PS3 - Mostly got this because I wanted the PS1/PS2, Wifi, and SD card support. Cause I figured Sony would remove that stuff eventually. Picked up Resistance: Fall of Man which was pretty much meh. Did however play thru Oblivion on this cause I heard the graphics were much better. Other than that it's been a dust collector.

donno why - just obsessed with the concept. I'm sure i'll enjoy plenty of other 7800 games when i finally do buy one, but it's that one that makes the difference.

i bought a Wonderswan just for Klonoa game. oh wait there was Rockman & Forte too.
