Hello there!

Well, I'm planning on building my own 2600 keyboard controllers to use it with the Synthcart. I am not a hardware guy (can't barely do good soldering), but looking at schematics things kinda look to be not that difficult. So I decided to give it a try.

On the Synthcart website there's a link to a page called "Tim's Instructions", that seems to be a tutorial to build such keyboard. Unfortunately, the link is dead. Looking over the internet I could not find any tutorial on that...

So... does someone have any starting and building tips on this subject?

It shouldn't be too difficult to do what you're looking to do. Though you could go totally "from scratch" with 12 pushbuttons, a standard 3 x 4 matrix keypad hooked up properly should work. The only really tricky thing compared to a standard keypad implementation is the pullup resistors to facilitate the use of the analog paddle inputs to read two of the columns.

There should be plenty of material on the internet about implementing a scanned key matrix. You'll probably find such information in conjunction with microcontrollers.
