Howdy all. I originally got the Lynx when it first came out, and had 12 games which my favorites were Zarlor Mercenary, Pinball Jam & Blue Lightning. I had to sell my Lynx after many years because I was in a bad spot financially... only recently have I been able to get back into the Lynx and discover greater games I never played before like Battlezone, Warbirds and the mother of all addicting games, SHANGHAI.

So could anybody give me a review of STUN Runner? I loved the arcade version and was wondering how well it stood up on the Lynx's scaling engine. I hear generally positive things but not any real reviews.

Also, what are the 5 best multiplayer Lynx games in your opinions?

thanks much in advance.

Welcome back ;)

The Lynx version of STUN Runner is a fairly good port. The graphics aren't as good as the arcade version for obvious reasons but they are still fairly good and more importantly with this game, *quick*. The levels are based off the arcade version and seem to follow them pretty well. Overall I believe it's one of the better games for the Lynx and I do enjoy playing it although it will not capture my attention for hours on end, but then the arcade version didn't either (I wasn't big on driving games other than Outrun & Roadblasters - which is a fantastic arcade port).

My top 6 (couldn't settle on 5) top multiplayer games would have to be:
#1 Warbirds (this rocks multiplayer)
#2 Awesome Golf (although just as good single player)
#3 tie between Checkered Flag & Battlewheels
#4 tie between Xenophobe & Battlezone

Awesome Golf doesn't really gain anything by being played multiplayer but it's still my top favorite for games on the Lynx.

Two cheaper multiplayer games that suprised me were:
Xybots (not bad but really easy w/ two players)
Robosquash (I hated this game until I got to play it head to head. Playing w/ another person actually makes this game fairly fun and we've had many a robosquash nights. Single player it's little more than boring fustration.)

I definitely recommend S.T.U.N. Runner. The fact that they were able to pull this off on the Lynx was amazing enough. If you liked it in the arcade, you will definitely like it on the Lynx as it is surprisingly dead on version from the design to the levels. Even the voice synthesis is accurate. It is also a load of fun.
I don't get to play multiplayer that much, but I echo the sentiments above. Warbirds is the best multiplayer game out there. It is compared to the best computer games out there except maybe Quake. Checkered Flag with up to eight (!!) is amazing. Xenophobe is excellent and you get to play the alien hunting players down. Battlewheels is essential multiplayer. Awesome GOlf? Hmm. Excellent game, but it has to be interactive. How about RAMPAGE? You can play up to three and the game is really fun. I really like Rampart where you get to choose between the ships or the fortress.

Arrgh, How could I have forgotten Rampart. Rampart is an excellent multiplayer game. I would have to place it in the top slots too.

:ponder: How many is my top 5 now anyways? :ponder:

I don't suppose anyone here has had an opportunity to try Hyperdrome multiplayer.

First of all: I like your avatar EscoZG :)

I must agree on what everyone else already have said. Warbirds is a fantastic multiplayer game! I have not tried the multiplayer function in so many Lynx games yet, but I can also recommend BattleWheels. And one of the best multiplayer games you have already named: Shanghai! I think this is one of the best games for the Lynx. I know most people disagree on this but I think this game is much better then Klax. As you said it is the "the mother of all addicting games", it has fantastic music, you donīt have to hold your Lynx in a vertical position, it has the multiplayer function where you can cooperate or play against each other.

About STUN Runner: It is a good game but personally I prefer Roadblaster.

I have to correct myself on Shanghai: It is of course a 2 Player game not a multiplayer game :ponder: But itīs still a great game :D

damn straight. I am still to this day trying to beat the damned turtle formation. (shakes fist)

I shall repeat: has anyone had the chance to play Hyperdrome multiplayer? I know the game is hard enough to find on its own. if not, how's the single player?

I love Ballblazer on the 7800. I only got that game circa 1995, well after I was playing Lynx and Jaguar (and occasionally SNES) games, and was still blown away by the sound, graphics, and frantic gameplay.

Hyperdrome is not a straight clone of Ballblazer -- they've got 4 players versus 2 on on Ballblazer, and there are objects to collect and return to your goal, guns to stun your opponent, field obstacles, and so on.

Personally, I think BB is the superior game. Hyperdrome is still good fun, but it takes some time to figure out which crystals are the most valuable to collect and return to your goal. In some games, the Lynx opponents hunt you down mercilessly; in other games, they pretty much ignore you and collect their own crystals.

And in my experience Hyperdrome is definitely more fun with more players. :)

yes, it can be very fun with 3 or 4 players comlynxed.if you get two or
three or four crystal collectors bouncing off each other it is very much in
the vein of bumper cars,i think.it can be a riot to play sometimes.other
comlynx favorites can be this way too-battlewheels,warbirds,and etc.the
lynx can be a very fun machine to be comlynxing on-the exceptions are
tournament cyberball and nfl football,i guess.others?-chris

It is only for two players but Turbo Sub must be the worst comlynxable game for the Lynx.

Of course I'm biased but I added things to Champ. Rally to make multi-player more interesting: adjustable setting for each player (speed etc.), moveable objects so you can surprise your opponent, shortcuts, damage etc.

The best multiplayer games are:

i) Warbirds
ii) Slimeworld (Combat level)
iii) Checkered Flag

Some one on here before said they didn't see what was so good about Slimeworld : its the large levels, mixture or action/logic/puzzles/mazes (with map) etc. and excellent multiplayer capability - especially the Combat mode.

It was one of the first Lynx games, and for me the early original games were often the best: they obviously enjoyed far more attention to detail than most of the later efforts. (Look at Slimeworld, Chips Challenge, Gauntlet, Gates of Zendocon, Zarlor Mercenary, Blue Lightening... etc. and compare it to later attempts like that Larry game, Kung Food, Batman etc.)

There were some outstanding later games which weren't just ports (like Lemmings etc.) though... Warbirds, Tennis, Golf, and Battle Wheels spring to mind... but the later games do strike me as more hit-and-miss!

Yeah, I agree with Babble - Slimeworld has got to be one of the top 5 multiplayer games, the combat level is so much fun. I love those mega-bombs!

And Xenophobe, too. Especially when one player is playing as the alien.
