I have 4 working Lynx I and all of them have the center section of the screen to be darker than the left or right.
They all have this to some degree, some being better than others. I only have one Lynx II and I don't notice this on it.
What causes this and is there a way to fix it?

I have the same problem, only it's the right 1/3 of the screen that is dark. I have no clue what's wrong. This is only my Lynx 1 unit, which is what you are also showing. I have no problems with my Lynx 2 screen.

I took a Lynx I screen apart last night. The circuitry for the screen is divided in 3 parts. So it looks like if one or more of the sections is not running as well as another it is visible by being more dim.

It could be whatever on the Lynx mobo feeds that ribbon cable that goes to the screen, but I'm guessing it is just the screens themselves.

BTW, you can't get a screen back together once you remove it. The ribbon cable is factory glued in the exact position to the screen and held rigid by tape. Seemed impossible for me to get it back together.

Here is the screen laying on the Lynx box.

I have a few extra screens hanging around from Lynx II's. Do you think they might fit into a Lynx I?

Hi Karri.

Even if they would fit I don't see how they could be hooked up. The ribbon cable is glued to the screen and then directly soldered to the mobo at the other end. It is way beyond my skills soldering plastic ribbon cable. :)

I had this same problem with a Game Gear. Resoldering the ribbon cable to the PCB fixed it, but the process was reeeealy not fun.

It should not be soldered. Are you shure that it is not just a socket with a lock like in Lynx II?
