Hello, I am wanting to make a game for the 2600, but have never done it before. So I was wondering if anyone would be able to assist me with that (so that the game gets done, and I can learn to make games while making this one). I do not want to reveal the idea of the game yet (until it gets started. Also I was wondering how long it usually takes to make a side-scroller?

Thanks in advance
Joey

Do you have any programming experience on other platforms?

Do you know anything about BASIC programming? If so, you can make your own Atari 2600 game with batari Basic:

I have heard of it, but I am curious, how easy is it?

Batari Basic is the way to go if you have never programmed assembly before. The Atari is shocking lacking memory and graphics capabilities. Assembly is truly a fun (and painful challenge).

Batari Basic makes the task pretty easy - and unlocks most of the system's power for you.

It's a relative question, I have heard it is pretty good for people with any type of programming skill especially Basic. For someone like me who can build a PC with his eye's closed but figuring out any type of code is about as easy for me as deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphic's. I say try it out and see for yourself. No matter what anyone's opinion is your not going to know until you try.
