Nintendo is re-releasing Super Mario All-Stars this weekend. I read that many of you bought this when it was released the first time in December. Are the Mario games bundled in the set any different or better than the same games available from the Wii shopping channel? I really don't care about the audio CD or the booklet and the download games can be bought for $21 vs $30 but if there is some value added in the games then I might buy the hard copy. I don't want to mod the Wii because it belongs to my daughter and I don't want to ruin it for her using it online with friends.

The Mario games on the Wii shop channel are the original NES games, not the Mario All-Stars revisions.

Thank you for the answer Austin!

Another plus for the disk version is that because its a physical copy, you can play it on ANY Wii console. With downloads, should you ever purchase a new Wii console for whatever reason, you will not be able to play these previously downloaded games on the new Wii console you purchase.

Super Mario Bros 3 has significant timing issues. If you're a casual fan you can probably live with it, but if you are at all accustomed to the NES version the game is broken. I'm guessing since the VC game is the original it doesn't have this problem, but I'm not certain since I've never played it.

What is the difference between the Limited Edition and the re-released Mario All-Stars?

Can you explain these timing issues? I finished SMB3 from start-to-finish on the All-Stars Collection back in December and played it exactly like I would normally play the NES one.

It's another run of the same thing... Nintendo under-estimated the sales and made another batch. I'm sure collectors are going to look for a different upc # or something to tell the difference but really, if you missed the Christmas batch, this is what you missed. Nothing more, nothing less.

I noticed something was off immediately the first time I played SMB3 on the Wii collection. I immediately ran into a goomba and had trouble getting off the ground when I got the feather because I was doing all kinds of stupid stuff. I thought maybe it was just my age but I logged onto DP and everyone was having the same problem. I played the NES version at a gaming event last weekend and someone watching said it looked like an instructional video on YouTube. I doubt that's really the case, but on the original I was able to run through the first world in a few minutes after not having played it in 10+ years. YMMV, but either the Wii emulation or SMB All Stars itself (which I never played much of on the SNES) has lag or floaty jumps or something that makes the game unplayable to me.

Weird.. It felt the same as the NES game to me. No issues with flight or jumping, or anything else for that matter, whatsoever. Strange. :?

The controls in SMB2 are better. In the original, they were very touchy. That being said, I prefer the GBA remakes to this, especially in terms of audio. But the packaging is awesome, and the art book is really cool too- easily the best part. It shows original photos of how the games were plotted on graphing paper, pretty cool!

Just to clarify, are the differences in SMB3 that you are noticing specific to the Wii disc, or do they extend to the original SNES SMBallstars as well?

I haven't bought this package because I have three carts of SNES All-stars already, and that's all that this is.. aside from a booklet and CD of course

I have been reading that the Super Mario Advance titles are going to be released for the 3DS e-shop. Personally, I would love to see a new reworking of 1, 2, 3 and SMW with the added prowess of the Wii and 3DS.

I bought the collection when people on eBay were selling it for $60. To be honest, I felt it was a big disappointment.
Hack your Wii, install the Homebrew Channel, and then the NES emulator. Then you can play the real games on your Wii without these "remade" versions.

Or just spend the $21 and download them off the Virtual Console and save yourself the hassle.

I've been happy with Super Mario All-Stars. I love the remakes of Super Mario Brothers 2 and 3 (Not a fan of the other half of the remakes, I much prefer the originals). Even though I have the GBA rereleases and the original SuperNes cartridge, it has still seen a lot of use on my Wii.

Installing the HBC is worth every bit of the hassle.

Depends if you want a physical copy or digital. I prefer and got a pc copy.
