In the year 2100, A villain named "Xaim" has started a plan to take over the world....

And only Max, The hero, has the power to stop him!!

~Controls~

~At the Title Screen~
Difficulty B for the left side And Fire- starts you with 6 hearts
Difficulty A for the left side And Fire- starts you with 1 heart

~In-game~

Reset- Resets the game

Up- Jump
Down- Duck
Left or Right- Move
Fire- Shoot current weapon

~While Ducking~
Fire- Equips your normal Beam
Left- Equips the Wall Beam(If you found it.)
Right- Equips the Screamer Cannon(If you found it.)

Note:
You can't move while ducking. at all.
Also, i had to remove 2 player mode, as it really got in the way of adding the bosses and power-ups
Oh, and each heart, is 2 hp.
Also, when you grab a secret weapon, your life is completely refilled.

HUGE NOTE:
In one of the screens, i've hidden a secret 3rd exit to that screen.....if you find it, you'll be teleported to a secret area, where you have to fight the REAL final boss......

Good Luck!

Also, if you Find any bugs, tell me.

If your game gets put on a cart..it will be purchased and you might make proceeds..? Coolest thing is, if it is bug free or close to it and it makes it to cart..People can own an actual copy of your rom on a cartridge and for collectors..put it in their library...others might show up on ebay for insane amounts of money as being rare....but I wouldnt let that bother you from passing this on as a possibility and offering it to the Atari community..Al might be able to assist with this? But he is a busy god...I meant guy as of lately.....

OKAY, i have fixed all the bosses, and tested to make sure the bosses, fields, both good, and bad endings, work.

So far, everything looks bug-free, so here's the bug-fix release 1.

I dont know if you would make money per say if AL or anyone here can actually take this project on for you...but maybe you can get your rom made as a cart and if it proves worthy you give the rights to those that can make it a cart and you make a deal with them?

I dont know the specifics..Im just the idiot that would buy it...

Don't know if it's intentional design, but start the game and walk left till you fall, nothing happens, so then walk right and jump. Now you've warped to a different part of the level.

You can also walk into the walls and jump up over and over. The enemies if not defeated, as you move to the next screen will fall off the sides of the screen and continue shooting at you.

Just a bit odd. By the way, the only real voting option is obviously the 6th choice ;)

Aside from that, pretty neat. Also I am not hearing any sound, is it me or is the game just silent?

The game wouldn't have been silent, had someone seen, and accepted my request for help with music. e_e

And i had a lot of troubles using pfread, so i couldn't make the walls solid on anywhere other than the top..... DX

Basically, consider this a warm up for my real project.

this is my first game, and my first attempt at real atari programming.
i was, for the most part, experimenting when i made this game.

Nice game, especially for a first effort. I really like this, but it just needs some things ironed out.

It's way too easy to jump up through the top of the screen by accident. The top should be solid to prevent this. You may be able to get some help with pfread to fix that and also make the sides solid where you don't want people to go. Right now, it's just too easy to get yourself screwed up in the walls and end up in funky places you don't want to be.

I think I got to that hidden screen you mentioned with the "real" boss, but I'm sure I didn't get there the way I was supposed to.

You may be able to get help with the sound you wanted. You just have to be a bit patient as everyone has their own lives going on and may not be available immediately after you ask. Just keep working out issues with the project and someone will pop in who can help. That almost always happens, just not always overnight.

If you can use multiple colors in your playfield, then I have a suggestion for you. How about using a lighter color on the walking area of a screen? This wouldn't look right on all screens, but there are several that would look great. Here are two examples:

METALMAX2600.bin_2.png METALMAX2600.bin_7.png

Also, you may want to get someone to test this out on real hardware to see how the colors will look on a TV. Actually, I can do this later today. The colors you've chosen "may" need some tweaking so they show up right. The lum values can be an issue and make it too hard to see in some cases.

Anyway, I hope you'll consider these things. This game has great potential... too much potential to not hammer away at some of the issues before you leave it behind. I encourage you to not get impatient and call it finished before it's all it can be. There are a lot of very knowledgeable and helpful people around here who can help you iron out problems.

the reason i didn't use pfread, was because it kept screwing up on me, and would be off if i walked towards the edge of the screen.
i, just today, got help with that, and now am able to use pfread.

Sorry about the impatience thing....i'm still working on that self-issue..... DX

And thanks for offering to test my game on real hardware. :)

I played around with it on real hardware. The TV I tried it on doesn't have the greatest color, but I used it because if a game looks okay on it, the game should look okay on just about anything.

I recommend lightening some of the colors, such as:
  • dark grays
  • dark purples
  • dark blues
  • dark greens (optional)
The other rooms are okay, but the ones with those colors are a bit too dark for you to clearly see that dot that moves across the screen.
Also, I'd recommend lightening the player's color by at least one lum value. On screens where there's a lighter background, it makes the player color look too dark. It just takes a little learning how colors work together on an Atari + CRT TV and a little trial and error. ;-)

The game plays a bit easier with a real joystick. :) I always wanted a game like this when I was a kid. It feels good and I'm glad you're working on pfread.
Keep in mind that if you move back a screen that has a boss, the boss will reappear on the far left and follow from screen to screen. It should be that once a boss is defeated he does not reappear, but if you aren't able to do that, at least make sure that he'll appear in a place where you can defeat him again.
Also, you may want to fix the spelling on the false ending screen that says "TRY AGAN".

That "real" last boss is pretty awesome. I haven't beaten him yet. He gets me with about his 3rd pattern. I still don't know the right way to get to him though. I just move up and across screens that I shouldn't be able to get to until I find him. I realize you're fixing this, which is a good thing.

I know, my favorite part of the whole game is the real final boss. XD
He was a pain in the a$$ to program though. >.>

Here's some tips on how to dodge his attacks:

~Attack #1(The dashing at you)~
1. Jump XD

~Attack #2(The going down to the floor)~
1. Jump the MOMENT before he touches the ground, and hope you don't touch ANY ground until he flies back up

~Attack #3(The large ball of energy)~
1. Okay, it chases you, so run to the VERY left or right edge of the screen, and it'll vanish before it hits you.
