Hi all,

I have a question regarding the atari 2600/7800 controllers. I'm building new controllers for these systems and I have a question regarding the ground on pin 8 and the +5v on pin 7. Would I do damage to either the atari 2600 or 7800 (or others such as c64, vic20, etc) if the +5v get's connected to the ground on a couple of the buttons? I'm trying to make a stick that will have 2 buttons. On the 2600 the second button would be the booster grip button and on the 7800 it would be the left and right buttons.

Thanks,
mike

If you do that you'll short out the main supply to all the chips on the motherboard. Have a look at the schematic for the pro-line joystick to do it the correct way.

Thanks Groovybee. I figured it would do damage. I actually think I figured out a better way to do this. I will post the results when I complete the project.
