I had a friend that bought one of my S-Video kits for his 400 and said he would send me the photos of the installation. so far, no photos.

I'm looking to buy a 400 that works (Keyboard working is not a big deal) so I can do the installation and take the photos needed for the S-video installation instructions.

i'll pay shipping and for the 400 if it's cheap enough.

No Power Supply Needed. Just the Console.

Oh man, if you are putting S-video into the 400 then YOU ARE THE MAN!

This is very interesting! PLEASE POST LOTS OF PICS WHEN YOU GET TO THIS!!!!

The 400 was a lot of people's first computer, and if you can put S-video (or even composite) you will be "the man."

I long for the day I play Star Raiders on an original 400 (the best for playing Star Raiders) with a decent connection.

I would do it myself but i live a lil too far from him! :D

By the way Sal... very very nice video output on my "Made in Kjmann" S-video refurb 1200XL... really impressive!!!

I use it on a 4:3 LCD screen by SAMSUNG which has s-video input . Picture is crystal clear!

Can't wait to get the same on the Atari 400.

By the way... The chroma switch on the 1200XL is switched pointing towards the s-video socket, this gives best results.

As seen here....

I just upgraded a 400 to 48K and I loathe connecting it via RF to an LCD. Even with a handy antenna input, I'm getting the "no audio" issue described elsewhere. Any news on the video mod for the 400?

Here they are!!!

Atari 400 S-Video installation Instructions for Kjmann's S-Video Upgrade Board.

Unfortunately the 400 Required the installation of 4 extra resistors on the main motherboard.

This shows where to put them and what values they need to be. as well as where to install the leads from the S-Video Board itself.

Hi Kjmann,

That's great news!

It would help the timid (like me) to see a pic of the board and all components laid out on a table, just to get an eyeball of all what's included, just to get an idea of what I'd be getting into. Also, do you have any pics of the completed 400? I'm wondering where (in the 400 chassis) you put the board and the jacks? Is this the same board that goes in the XL/XE, or a different one? Was wondering if this is a "kit" for the 400 that includes the necessary wire and resistors (perhaps at additional cost) and stuff like that.

It's great that somebody (you) showed some love for the 400! There hasn't been a video mod specifically sold for the 400 since 1983!

I'll Take Some more Photos this next week of the final installation and jack locations. I could offer the atari 400 Resistors (and audio Jack) for an extra charge. I'll have to figure that out.

Yes it is the same board that goes into the XL/XE.
