With what looks to be one of the final PSP releases that will be of much interest to anyone, SNK has this slated for a Japanese release for the PSP on April 21st.

It was rated by the ESRB in late 2009, but SNK hasn't said if it was coming stateside since (It was also at one point slated for release on the PS2, but those plans appear to be dead).

Given the state the PSP is in at this time in North America and the long gestation period for this title, this looks to be something everyone can count on not coming stateside. But with the import friendly nature of both the PSP itself and the included content, it shouldn't be much of a problem for anyone that is interested.

It's developed by G1M2, known for some of the better recieved SNK compilations of years gone by. Here is the case insert, a trailer, and the game list.

Included games:

Ikari Warriors (1986)
Dogosoken (1986)
Ikari III: The Rescue (overseas version) (1989)
Athena (1986)
Psycho Soldier (1987)
Sasuke vs. Commander (1980)
TANK (1985)
ASO (1985)
Prehistoric Isle in 1930 (1989)
Bermuda Triangle (1987)
Vanguard 2 (1984)
HAL 21 (1985)
Marvin’s Maze (1983)
Guerrilla War (1987)
P.O.W. (1988)
Street Smart (1989)
SAR Search and Rescue (1989)
Touchdown Fever (1987)
Gold Medalist (1988)
Super Championship Baseball (overseas version) (1989)

Nice to finally see some attention given to the real gems of SNK's library of classics. I just wish there hadn't been licensing issues with Vanguard's audio. I'd of loved to finally have gotten a proper arcade port of that at long last.

I think it's still possible for SNK Playmore USA to release Vol. 0 in North America, specifically as a PSN exclusive. That's what they did just a few months ago for NEOGEO HEROES ~Ultimate Shooting~, also a PSP title. If Vol. 0 were released the same way and at the same $20 price (or less), I'd pick it up, primarily to check out the scrolling shooters. A.S.O. (Alpha Mission) would join its sequel that I picked up for the NeoGeo Station.

As for Vanguard, take a look at this recently added ESRB rating. Judging from the platforms listed, I think it might appear as a Mini. Presumably, they removed the ST:TMP theme music.

ASO = Armored Scrum Object? There's a title that won't be getting a remake any time soon... sounds like British slang for naughty bits.

I think it really sucks that this will be only on the PSP. I own both a PS2 and a Wii, which the last collection came out for, and now the next collection in this series comes to the one platform of the three that I don't own :(

Thanks, that's good news if it happens. :)

Wikipedia mentions that it also borrowed the Vultan's theme from the movie Flash Gordon.

As long as the music is replaced with something appropriate sounding, I'll be satisfied. Don't think I've ever seen a real Vanguard machine so I wouldn't miss it. I just want to see what it was like after all these years of playing the Atari console versions.
