I just got 6 Zellers games from AtariLeaf and they get massive amounts of attention on my shelf. I find they are very neat looking and as a collector the story is kind of cool too. I decided to look on eBay (I know I know) to find more, but they get real high BINs on them there. Either Mr. Leaf cut me a great deal, or those people are really looking to scam people.

So how common are they in Canada? AA list them around R5 for the most part, but they are rarer in R5 in my area for sure. Should I just make friends with someone in Canada to get more of these or what?

For me, its not totally unusual to get a Zellers cart or two in a local Craigslist type of lot or to see them on a shelf in a flea market.
Certainly not as common as your usual Combat/Asteroids/MsPacman type of common. But I dont have ALL of them yet, even loose. And I keep an eye out for them.
But yeah, I dont think I would BIN at $20-$30+ each to complete the collection either. Value is in the eye of the person wanting the item.

I think it may depend on where in Canada you are looking.

I grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia and I began seriously collecting Atari 2600 games around 1989. I purchased countless boxes of hardware and cartridges at garage sales, rummage sales, and such like. Until I moved away in 1998, I saw only a single Zellers cartridge -- "Challenge". If memory serves, I bought it at the (now long defunct) Cash Convertors store.

In the same time period, I found exactly one Sears-brand cartridge -- "Target Fun". These were not sold in the Canadian stores and so they are comparatively scarce around here.

Into the early-1990s, my local Zellers store was still selling new, remaindered 2600 games, but none were store-brand. Indeed, I don't recall having ever seen Zellers store-brand cartridges throughout the 1980s (though I was admittedly not collecting games at that time, either).

In the past decade, I have seen very few Atari cartridges in the wild -- mostly at thrift shops and flea markets (all in Canada). I have not encountered any Zellers cartridges.

I dont know really, I pick one up here and there over a period of years usually in a lot of other games so cant really say. If you feel you got a great deal from Atarileaf then I am sure you did.

Oh I know I got an amazing deal from Atarileaf actually. I wasn't commenting on the quality of the deal I got as much as the crazyiness of eBay pricing on these items. Atarileaf is a stand up guy and gave me a better deal then I expected on these items when I PMd him about them. He even got them to the post office the next day, and from what I understand about Canada thats normally a 2 day ride by moose so... :D

Zellers carts turn up often in Southern Ontario. I have picked up various carts for between $3 and $7 at local flea markets. Dragon Treasure seems to be the most common.

Musta used the dogsled.
Yes I agree, my dealings with atarileaf have been great as well. Prompt, well packaged, good price.

Cool. Dragons Treasure is my favorite of the ones I have. To me the name suggest you are stealing the treasure from the dragon, which is a complete reversal in the story of Dragon Fire.

Welcome to AtariAge by the way. If you are into classic gaming you will love this place, and if you aren't into classic gaming you will be soon. :D We have that effect on people.

Thanks! I had an account years ago, but lost/forgot it. I had a huge Atari collection and sold it all off in the mid-90's. My wife actually found a box of stuff for free that got me started again. Funny thing....the box had the Starpath Supercharger and some of the cassettes/instructions as well as some R5 carts....and Zellers carts too. I'm on the lookout for foreign/South American carts and pirate eproms. I have a couple of examples of SA carts and a nice homemade pirate eprom cart with exchangable eproms.

Loose Zellers carts are common to find up here. Boxed Zellers games are getting harder to find. The most common boxes are Time Warp, Laser Volley, and Ocean City Defender IMHO. The hardest box... Scuba Diver. I know of only two Scuba Diver boxes in existence. Ebay is a funny thing though. I've seen very rare boxes turn up a few times after years of no show (like Music Machine).

I'm from Newfoundland, I remember seeing these a lot as a kid, and they always puzzled me. No brand name, no fine print, no title on the artwork, odd 1960ish looking art (or so I thought back then). Dragon Treasure, Turmoil, and Challenge I remember for sure... I have Dragon Treasure, my friend Arthur had Turmoil and Dwayne had Challenge...
What was up with Challenge? The Cartridge, what it quite clearly displayed was the GHOSTBUSTERS and they are BUSTING a big GHOST. Check out the shoulderpatch... that guy`s a ghostbuster... Flip the old power switch and what do you get... a duck, and a bunch of enemies... Dwayne had no idea how to play it and only turned it on that once to prove to me it WASNT a Ghostbusters game, because, come on, how could I have not thought it was!
Dragon Treasure and Turmoil were quite fun tho.

I come across them once in a while. The local game store has a few but they price them insanely high - $30 + for some. I've never seen one boxed, at least not since they were sold new in Zellers. I do love the artwork on them, very funky. I think the only one I kept was an extra copy of Pinball, I love the picture on that one. I think the Toyratt store up here in Milton Ontario has a bunch of them.

Just recently found a boxed Dragon Treasure after many years of searching. It came from a local game store that was closing. It only took a few years of looking. The box is worn a bit, but considering you can't find them that often it displays great.
In the Hamilton area Dragon Treasure is the most common, along with Circus.
