I bought GTA IV on sale from "Direct2Drive." I got it downloaded and installed and patched to 1.0.7. The only way it would even start is if I used "xliveless." Mostly it works now, and I even got my PS2 controller working, using a USB adapter and xbox360 controller emulator.

The problem is, I can't switch between weapons. If I go to a weapons dealer, I automatically pick up the first weapon I run into and I can't put it down, buy it, or change to another weapon. If I use the weapons cheat, I seem to get the weapons, but again I can't switch away from the fist. If I walk over a red glowing weapon on the ground, I can't pick it up, either because I already have the weapon or because of this bug. If I load someone else's saved game, the game loads, but I still can't switch weapons.

This seems like a physical problem with the next/previous weapons buttons, but I verified the controller buttons and keyboard keys do work, and I even tried reassigning them with no success. Something in the game is just not letting me use weapons. How boring.

Any ideas?

I tried a different 360 controller emulator "XBOX360 Controller Emulator v3.0" and now everything works as it should. Turns out the other emulator was telling the game that the "aim" button (left shoulder button) was always pressed, causing all the issues I listed.
