I got my 5200 Space Shuttle today (thanks AtariAge!)
the weird thing is, the instructions are for a different version, with references to keyboard keys (L, E, C, G, Space bar, Escape, etc.)
Maybe its for an 8-bit version? :?

I have the complete Space Shuttle package from when the game was released. I just checked in my instructions and the same thing is present. Maybe Activision was too lazy to change the instructions for the 5200. The overlays are hard to follow as well. I'm not sure if the overlays are set like the instructions because I haven't sat down to look through the monster of an instruction manual that came with this game.

Nevertheless, you have the right manual.

Inside cover:

The Manual said:

Equipment Note

This Flight Manual describes the controls used when running the SPACE SHUTTLE program on Atari® 400 or 800 computers. The program also runs on the Atari 5200™ game console.

The Atari 5200 version comes with a keypad overlay, which tells you which keys perform all the program functions described in this Manual:

All program sequences and operations are the same as in the 400/800 version.  There are three minor differences in the way controls are used:
[list] bottom red buttons to affect engine thrust.
[*] During the mission, press either top red button to cycle through status information (replaces Space Bar)
[*] Remember, the 5200 has a non-centering Joystick, so you will have to return it to center (neutral) position manually to save fuel when using OMS and RCS in orbit.
[list]

Note the second paragraph...the manual is used for both versions.
