Hello people as you can see I am new here. Recently I bought used Atari Jaguar CD and it didn't spin the discs at all. So I ordered new parts for it from ebay and changed them according to this tutorial:

http://www.linkovitc...aguar/cdrepair/

Problem is that the cd just spins a little bit and jaguar shows ?. (Before replacing parts didn't show or randomly booted the cart).

Do I have to calibrate the laser, if so how to do it?

Thank you very much! :-)

Exactly what parts did you replace? Before replacing anything, did you try pulling up on the spindle with a pair of pliers? Would the spindle move freely if you tried to move it yourself?

Yep, check what Sauron said first. I've personally ran into the issue twice and popping up the platter (you will hear a faint "click") helped. At least temporarily.

I remember having to eventually crack open the system itself and fiddled with the button that actually makes the CD spindle spin (the tray lid pushes it down when closed). Doing something to it got it to work permanently, and it didn't involve replacing anything. That's not to say you won't have a different problem altogether though, but I know the spindle issue is a common one.

Yes of course I tried all the tricks before ordering new parts. I ordered and replaced the parts with this: New Philips VAM1202 laser mechanism for CDM12.1 CDM12.2.

You should not need to do that, espically if you have replaced the unit with a new one.

If you can do so then check the voltage rails in the CD unit are stable when the disc spins up to make sure the CD units power supply is correctly powering it.

What CD are you using to test it?
The Jag CD unit has problems with some CDR's/CDRW's. I find mine does not work with those that have a tinited (coloured) surface, those with a silver looking surface work.
If you are trying it with an original "glass mastered" game CD try checking it for scratches and finger prints and clean if necessary (center outwards) or try a music CD

I bought a couple of Jag CDs earlier in the year, they were both supposed to be fully working, but one does exactly the same thing - the most movement I get is a tiny little jitter (I think that's what I'm seeing in the video - it seems a bit dark). Is there some part of a Jag CD that can come loose in transport that would produce this effect?

Nothing mechanical that I am aware of.

Video is hard to see but once lid is closed I can see a partial rotation there, it might be that something is catching on the CD unit casing, check the following...
1) does the optical head move and motor spin correctly without a CD? If not then
2) does the optical head move and motor spin correctly with the top of the case removed? If not then
3) double check that you have installed it correctly and not damaged any of the wires/cable attached to the transport and that connectors are attached the correct way up, particully that the flexible circuit is inserted into the FCC connector the correct way up as it is single sided.
