Not a big fan of the TG16 controllers and was wondering if there has ever been an adapter that might let you use something else, like a Sega Genesis controller, or maybe an NES or SNES controller?

Has anyone ever built such a thing?

Turbopad is actually one of my favourites; feels like an improved NES pad to me. I've actually looked for ways to convert it to work on other consoles.

There's a side of the picture nobody has addressed yet; TG-16 controllers are really uncommon. That is an excellent reason to convert a more common controller to the 8-pin DIN format.

TG-16 controllers aren't uncommon. You can still buy NOS for a reasonable price.

But yeah, I really dislike the d-pad placement on the TG-16 controller. Way too close to the bottom left corner, I pretty much have to hold the controller in my finger tips for my thumb to be in the right place. It may have made sense for little japanese boys with tiny thumbs, but doesn't work well for man sized hands. I'm surprised this isn't a more common complaint.

On a similar note, has anyone seen an adapter to use TG-16 pads on the PC-Engine?

Get a Turbo Stick if you can, they're a fantastic controller.

I've managed to get a complete 'stable' of TG16 controllers myself (2 turbosticks, 3 turbopads), so I haven't had to consider converting other controllers, but I do agree that the controllers are not common. I've only seen them turn up at the thrifts once, and at the time if anyone had been in my way when I realized they were there, they would have gotten shoved aside hard as I grabbed them.

This doesn't mean they're impossible to find, as long as you're willing to hit internet sites, and have local game stores that aren't part of the GameStop conglomeration that insists anything not currently manufactured isn't worth selling.

The controllers are electrically compatible, they just use different ends. The ends are standard 8 pin DIN/mini-DIN connectors, available anywhere. Use whatever 8 conductor cable you have handy, cat-5 or a serial cable will work fine.

I got a AvenuePad 6 NIB from Japan on eBay for about $40 shipped. They aren't hard to find, just hard to find CHEAP.

Given how poorly the PCE did outside Japan, it's not too surprising. Even an old beat-up TG-16 system with one controller and maybe a game or two runs $60 to $80 on eBay. Duo or SuperCD2 systems easily cost hundreds of dollars. It's not as bad as the NeoGeo, but far worse than NES/SNES/SMS/SMD.

I actually have four TG16 controllers (five if you count the one in my CIB set) so maybe one day I'll sacrifice one of those and make an adapter.

I have one, it's been sitting around for years since I never got around to getting TurboDuo (which uses the same mini connector as PCE) I can't remember if it's official NEC product or a 3rd party cable. Probably 3rd party.

No it's not for sale, I still plan to get the Duo someday and I like Turbo Stick very much.

No it's not for sale, I still plan to get the Duo someday and I like Turbo Stick very much.

I do believe that NEC had an official TurboTap that worked on the TurboDuo, and enabled you to use the regular controllers with it. My friend Mike has one, since his 'primary' TG16 unit is a TurboDuo.

anyone know where i can find a turbo grafx 16 to turbo duo controller adapter? thingy? i just bought a turbo grafx 16 then a week later came across a duo for a cheap price (and by cheap i mean cheap for a duo) but anyway does anyone have a spare or know where i can track one down?

What I mean is the on the ToTotek converter let's you play you PS Pad on the Turbo Grafx 16 only have 3 button support..Street Fighter 2 CE has 6 buttons
