I'm angry. You can sell Pink Panther and Good Luck Charlie Brown, but why not release the ROMS also? I mean, for especially GLCB, most of us have been holding our breaths for this game, thinking it would never come, and now it has, but only if you have enough money.

Yes, it seems that the fewer proto's there are left, the longer it takes to release their .bins.

On the other hand, I have full considence that eventually these .bins will be released to the community.

I can understand that the owner wants to get some of his money back by selling repro's first, before releasing the .bin.

There's a problem dumping Pink Panther, that's one reason it hasn't been released yet. I don't know if they've solved the problem or not yet.

I know what he is saying though. I wasn't even aware that Wonder had found this one, well done to him. I have asked him for a price for a loose one although whether I can afford one is another matter. I have 3 kids and a low paid job and indulging in these gems is not easy. Already missed out on Turbo and Power Lords, would hate to lose the opportunity to play this one too ;)

Wonder as requested I am interested in a loose copy if the cost is not too high. Congrats on your purchase ;)

So let me get this straight, you are angry at yourself for not being able to afford to buy the original GLCB prototype and now you are demanding that the person who bought it, just gives it to you?

Interesting.

P.S. If anyone bought one of the new Tesla's, which I can't afford, I am angry at you. LOL

I thought there was a big difference in actually owning a rare prototype compared to just a binary file of the rare prototype. If I am wrong, I'm sorry.

You're missing anything, the game (prototype form) stinks. Won't catch me buying it.

I am sorry but to think anyone should feel obligated to release a .bin of any Proto that they purchased is ridiculous. You are talking about one of a kind prototypes purchased for large sums of money. If the buyer wants to make repro or just keep it to himself is entirely up to him. If you own something you can charge anyone anything to use it. Also releasing a game that has previously been undiscovered defiantely lowers the value of your one of a kind you just purchased. The purchaser has no obligation to let anyone have the file.

If I have more means to buy something, or you have more means than I do, it doesn't mean that you or I are evil, Just Capitalism at is best. not everyone gets what they want.

Charlie Brown and yeah I forgot the not. The Pink Panther game looks quite playable, in fact the Colecovision version looks very good.

Worry not, GLCB is being polished by some very talented people. ;) Where did you get to play it? :ponder:

I've seen the You Tube clips, looks dumb. Granted the proto is a very early version. If they are polishing as was done with Turbo, maybe they can make it better.

A fully agree with you, but I also think that a unique proto should be dumped (which doesn't automatically mean: released to the community) for the sake of video game history.

I think it's very important that we archive as much of the VCS era as possible, including the extremely rare stuff.

Risking to loose a valuable piece of video game history by not making at least one backup of it is IMO a sin.

I agree with you ROM, but it definately is up to the owner wether to let the program just rust away or to preserve it.
Another problem with the Pink Panther Proto, not even mentioned, is the Copyright, is still used today, and anyone releasing the game could potentially open themselves up to a lawsuit.

IMHO Wonder007 is an asset to the Atari retro community. He is not a hoarder. My Guess is after he recoups through sales whatever part of his investment he is looking for that he will release a .bin to he community. My only fear is he waits too long and this hits the licensing radar.... Of course anyone who purchases a cart can dump and release the rom for near infintely less than wonder007 paid for the proto. Sp atari2600land you can purchase and be "altruistic" yourself if you are so inclined
