Apart BIWN, I don't know what 2003 could bring to our Jaguar. But I write something about what I hope :)

Hope that some of those finished-but-unpublished games find a publisher (i.e. Arena FL, Brett Hull etc).

Hope that I could get a Battlesphere :D

Hope that LinkoVitch will program an exciting and wonderful game :D :D

I would love to see:

Brett Hull Hockey
and
Phase Zero

Black Ice sounds great.....can somebody tell me more about this game....
is this game finished or is just a little bit more than a "game" like Space War 2000 unfinished and just a better demo.

You're already able to get Phase Zero. B&C and Songbird sell it already. It came out in 2002.

Someone found the source code?!?!?! Awesome! Is it easy to figure out how to finish the game from it? I know there was a lot of fancy 3D code there. Does anyone unmderstand how it all works? I think it needed menus and intros and all that stuff. That seems like a lot of artwork too. Who's doing all the art and music? They must be pretty far along to be able to finish in the next year! Cool!

There's a difference between not knowing anything and making rational conclusions based on facts. You, my friend, have your head in the clouds and I'm sorry if a little dose of reality is harmful to the fantasy world you have built for yourself.

The fact is that as of postings here less than 3 months ago, no source code was located for the game.

The fact is that the game is a 3D game, and would require 3D programmers to complete or a steep learning curve for a first-time 3D programmer. The fact it's on the Jag makes this task even more daunting.

The fact is that the game lacked much of the detail work like screens for intros and menus that work, etc. These take time to program.

The fact is that the game lacks a LOT of art. And music. These also take time. And people.

Since no call has gone out for 3D programmers, artists, OR musicians, I can say with confidence that the title in question is NOT being worked on, and will NOT be "completed" in 2003.

Face reality man.

If living in reality makes me a "Dick" then you can call me "Richard"!

P.S. What moron would sell a stupid 2MB game with no box, manual, no CDs and no bonus hardware for $170? You can get games with tons of these extras for much less. I saw one once for $160!

Songbird is working on one small "stealth title" for a 2003 release, hopefully in the CGE timeframe. No, it's not Phase Zero although I still hope the source will be located at some point. Wouldn't mind finding the source to Aircars, either... that game is begging for some updates! ;)

Beyond that, I certainly hope we start seeing some other small games properly finished/published, such as Painter, JagTris, JagMania, etc., and obviously Jag fans would love it if a high-caliber game like Gorf finally made it out the door.

As Tbird has pointed out in another thread, the expectations for a Jag game are much higher than for older systems like the Lynx or the 2600. It's possible someone could do a one-man updated classic like Breakout or Space Invaders or whatever, but it's not very likely someone is going to start *and finish* a Zelda or Tomb Raider or the like. On the plus side, though, there should be room for some decent quality but small games at a lower price point on the CD format.

[b]oh well (no PZ) there was always hope :) At least theres a demo cart - better than nothing for now :)
any other clues on this "steath title"? :) or will it be kept secret till release.
Also if you had the source code for Aircars what kind of updates would you make? Texture mapping? better xplosions? take away the damage from trees :D

Well, if we're just speculating for fun here, if I had the source to Aircars I would (in this order):

1. Make the player harder to kill -- too often just one or two shots take you out
2. Get rid of the infinite lives (or at least restore the level so all enemies are back in place, ala Doom)
3. Change/remove annoying sound f/x ("target destroyed", anyone?) :)
4. Add more variety to the terrain
5. Add more variety to the enemy behavior
I think the basic 3D engine, player control, powerup variety, and minor enemies in the game are fine. The game just really needs some gameplay tweaking so it becomes more fun even with the dated 1995 style graphics.

Other touches, like throwing in some textures or higher poly counts, would be nice, but I have no idea how much additional work that would be. Who knows if the original object models would still be available, even if we had the source!
