It's Veteran's Day, so I've been hit up the yard sales and flea markets for a while. I didn't score much today, but I got this TV (32" Sony Trinitron Wega) for $60, and an Aurora InterActor for $8, just because I can't pass up weird videogame shit.

I passed up the opportunity to buy one of those for $3. I figured it wasn't worth the hassle of storing it.

How well does that InterActor work? I think it looks pretty cool....
I have one of those too. Imagine if you will, a really cheap subwoofer that you strap to your chest. It emphasises the low frequency sounds in a game (punches, shotgun blasts, ect.)

And yeah, it works about as well as you might think it would, that is to say, not well at all. Posted Image

Ya, I know it's junk, but I got a 32" Sony Trinitron Wega for $60!! :D

Oh, don't get me wrong, I bought one just like it this summer at a thirft store this summer for $8! I can't resist that kind of crap either. To make matters worse, I bought one way back in 1997 on clearance and returned it because it sucked. Posted Image

Nice deal on the TV too! I keep thinking of picking up a nice Sony one of these days to replace the unimpressive Toshiba that I have now in my game room.

I got one of the 36" model of that sometime last year for $100. The only problem is that it's the heaviest thing I have ever owned or tried to move. I mean, damn. I have full sized arcade games that weigh less than that thing. It must be 250 pounds.

Those Jackson 5 records could be worth some serious money. I've seen picture records of the Jackson 5 listed for hundreds of dollars. Michaels' stuff is probably worth about what it was when it was new.
I have Thriller on a 12 inch record. I purchased it for $15 just after he died. The next time I was in Vintage Stock, that same version of Thriller was going for $30.
picture records, colored vinyl, that type of stuff yes.. those tend to be of the collector types..if it's just a plain Jane black vinyl album, then, it really isn't worth dick

you paid $15 for a 12 inch copy of thriller? you know that's like one of the best selling albums of all time right? and it came out at the time when your only real choices for buying music was either cassette or vinyl.. and most sales were on vinyl,, right?
a more interesting purchase would be thriller on 8-track because I know they still had them, but were rapidly being phased out..

geeze.. to me paying $15 for a copy of thriller would be like paying $50 for a loose pacman cart.

I think the high end estimates of sales for that album were 110 million copies.

thriller as far as I'm concerned is a throwaway vinyl for any collection.. it's like frampton comes alive.. if you lived in the suburbs, it was sent to you in the mail..

don't get me wrong.. it's a great album. and has something for everyone.. but really.. I wouldn't pay more than a quarter for the album on a 12" vinyl.. and I'd spit at you if it was cassette.

people are actually paying $30 for that shit?

I just find that ridiculous

Great TV, great boat anchor. I have one (a 32HS model, not the XBR) that I got discounted at the end of its model year.

The 32" model is like 175 pounds, and it takes two strong men to lift it. When I have to move mine around, I sit on the ground and push it around with my feet. I don't even want to know about the 36" model.

Be sure to enable its 480P upconversion mode. This TV has about the best quality picture you can get from an S-video system. When I was playing FFXI, the picture quality difference between it and regular TVs was significant.

Also, its service menu can allow you to adjust for minimum overscan, except for 20 or so pixels at the top. Its DVI input only syncs to 640x480 VGA in 4:3 mode, but it's awesome for watching anime fansubs. (But when I hooked a Powerbook up to it, it only wanted to sync to 16:9 HD squeeze mode.) It wouldn't even take text mode from the PC until my ATI video card died, and I got another ATI card which had a text mode it would sync to.

Sunday night, at Goodwill:

Atari VCS:
Space Chase
Super Baseball
3D Tic-Tac-Toe (text)
Moonsweeper
Subterranea
River Raid II
Slik Stik x2

...$1.50 each

NES:
Ms. Pac-Man (Tengen)

...also $1.50

SNES:
Madden '95
Quarterback Club '96

What are the odds, that in a box of the usual dirt commons, are River Raid II AND Subterranea....at the same time? I wish I didn't already have them; I'd be WAY more excited. :D

@ BeerGnome: agreed 100%
@ RickHarrisMaine: Nice find on that Star Wars Arcade! As popular as Star Wars was/is, you'd think that one would turn up more.

Oh, one more thing... go into the regular set-up menu and set the Sharpness to the middle position on the bar. That is the zero position, because these sets can do negative sharpness. "Sharpness" is a BS option which messes up the picture to make it look better in sales showrooms by adding edge enhancement noise. And negative sharpness just makes things blurry.

My set's video menu settings are: Picture, Color, Hue, and Sharpness all at the middle of the bar, Brightness at about 75% of the bar, Color Temp=Neutral, ClearEdge VM=Off, DRC Mode=Progressive

Vet's Day came through! I love days off to go thrift'n. I think you get the best finds on weekdays, not weekends. Flea market steals are like 4-1 odds. Thrift store steals are more like 100-1 odds. Well, I finally had a big pay-off at my local Salvation Army.

All for $1 each.

Genesis (boxed, most w/o instructions):
Altered Beast
Castle of Illusion
Crash Test Dummies
Monopoly
Out of this World
Risk
Road Rash
Tommy Lasorda Baseball (I like getting the original releases with the huge GENESIS logo on them)

So yeah, not drop dead great, but then the clerk said, "I think we have some Super Nintendo. You want those?" Yeah!

SNES (boxed, complete):
Star Fox
Super Battletank 2
Wing Commander

She also brought out...
N64 (boxed, some complete):
F-1 World Grand Prix
Nascar '99
Mario Cart 64
Pilot Wings 64

And some Xbox (still don't own). These went for $2.49.
Mercenaries
Oddworld Munch's Oddysee
Kingdom Under Fire
Metal Dungeon
Metal Gear Solid 2

Couple of Fleaz Finds: $2 Crue Ball (Genesis), $2 Sonic Adv 2 (DC, no inst), & $3 Mega Man 4 (NES)

went to Salvation army, and got 2 new and sealed saturn games,

NBZ Live 98, and NFL 97, for $2.49, not the worst thing in the world, also picked up a loose Yoshi's Cookie for the same price. I love the $44.99 K-Mart stickers on the Saturn carts though.....

today at Goodwill was a bit better.

Minty cart of Super Mario All-Stars, and Diddy Kong Racing, each for 99 cents, but 10% off with the Goodwill discount card.

Go in the menu and under Video should be a smaller menu called Picture Mode. Turn both of the settings "NR" and "Notch" off. I have no Idea what Notch means but I know NR stands for Noise Reduction. Turning those off gives the TV an insane picture for the time.

I got Magic Knight Rayearth and Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean for the Sega Saturn for $3.99 each at a thrift store over the weekend. Not as impressive as it would have been a few years ago, but they are complete and in nice shape, so a solid find after months of nothing.

I'm pretty happy with this - I swapped 6 fairly decent NES duplicates for this package. There was only one proline controller in the box and, unfortunately, it doesn't work. Still, it's my first 7800 and I'm really happy with it.

Just got a PSP-100 power supply, a Sony 7.5V power supply (presumably for a Slim PS2), and a Gamecube power supply for $1.50 each. Also a PS2 S-video cable for a buck, and an old Sega Genesis (rear port installed) with no cables for $4.

Also, a couple of multi-tools. One was a hammer/saw tool commemorating AMD shipping 5000 of their "Hammer" CPUs ($1), and the other was a pliers/screwdriver tool (75 cents).

I've been doing pretty well over the last couple weeks. Surprising since New Orleans isn't the best place to go hunting for old stuff.
  • found a CIB contra at thrift for $10. even has foam and 'call this number for secrets' card.
  • boxed (not quite complete) star control II at a pawn shop of all places (talked down to $10)
  • and a hamilton wall clock for $25--not exactly a game find, and it's probably only worth $25 so it's not thrifty, but it's a strong runner, so far keeps time, and the chiming really makes the house feel right.

Just picked up the following for $25

Power Glove CIB: Box is a bit rough on this one, but the instruction manual and glove itself seem pretty good. I don't have a NES system at the moment, but I'll be sure to test it out as soon as I do!

As well as Food Fight and Spider Fighter for the 2600.

There's been piles of 2600 stuff at my local thirft shop lately, and there was a ton of NES stuff there today too. The only consoles were a bunch of PS1's and an N64 though,
