Picked up a PS2 Time Crisis II w/GunCon2-$9.99 at Goodwill, and a PS1 Crash Bandicoot: Warped and a DVD of the "V" pilot episode for $2 each at an Out of the Closet thrift. Not sure whom the "final sales version" is intended for; a good amount of this kind of stuff shows up at thrifts living in L.A.

That's kinda cool, must be something they used to sell the show to sponsors. It would be interesting to compare it to the version that aired to see if it's different.

I got lucky at my local GW last summer and picked up a 15 inch one that was in minty condition for about $20. Good for my file server.

That's exactly the kind of versatility that I need for my work. A couple of the cheapies I've found had DVI, which surprised me, but none have conventional video inputs.

You're right about testing them. I have bought a bum unit before. The trouble is that my SA tends to throw all of the AC adapters in a big tangle. I've been lucky to find several monitors that just had the Ac cord that plugged right in, but the ones with external transformers took a bit of doing. Worse yet is that the last two I found had a funky connector for the AC that didn't match up with the typical connection at the end of a 12 v AC adapter. Once I was lucky enough to find a little adapter cable that was perfect... I don't know if that little cable is an easy to find part, but I definitely need to find more.

I did see a gorgeous looking monitor today, but plugging it in revealed that it had been smashed. The screen displayed all kinds of weird patterns. It was acutlaly kind of pretty in a way, and if it would have just displayed like that I might have gotten it. ;) So yeah, I plan on carrying a power supply and that little adapter lead with me when I go thrifting so I can test stuff.

I can never find a LCD screen in decent condition at a thrift. They overprice them because they think a 15" is worth 60-80. I can't believe they sell. Also most of the hookups are missing. At those price I expect a fully tested unit. Even goodwill computer works store sells overpriced LCD screens. Most of their units have long gouges in them. That was why I got mine from craigslist. If I find a deal, I jump on it. I have been keeping my eye on craigslist to find 4:3 screens for a year now. I know these old LCDs are being retired by their owners are itching for a widescreen. I am happy to avoid paying a premium for a 4:3 screen.

I picked mine up for the composite. It just does not support 50Hz NTSC signals. I will have to find a cheap LCD for that.

Found some really cool stuff today. 2 Toycard Sansui controllers for a dollar each and a PS2 with 20 or so PS1 games for free. I saw a steering wheel laying on top of some garbage so I stopped to pick it up and the owner of the house came over and said she has the console if I want.

Don't have pics yet (not at home), but picked up a super nice Mac SE setup (dual floppy, unfortunately) at an estate sale for a great price. Came with all boxes, foams, manuals, Gravis Advanced joystick and joy pad (?) thing (I have no clue, it makes no sense to me), a trackball/mouseball thing, all the little accessories of the day like the paper holder, mouse holder and so on, and a boxed Imagewriter II printer. About 200 copied disks of games apps, and about 10 boxed softwares including AutoDuel, HyperCard, and some games I've never heard of. All of it works perfectly. Only issue is back of case is a bit yellowed, but I have a spare perfect case to swap out. I also have more RAM for it if I want to upgrade it. It was an awesome day! Also, unrelated, picked up a 1959 Schwinn Hollywood from the guy.

Got some free stuff today

A black Gamecube, needs a new disk drive. Came with power and video cables
A busted up but working Flashback 2, has a nice hole in it. Now I have 2 of them. I'll probably use this one for a Project.
Some random plug in play with 17 games.
And a Zip Drive. I'm loaning it to a friend so he can get some data off of his zip disks.

if you want to see some pictures, just ask.

Probably been said a million times before now, but a little Goo Gone can make short work of that. Even on the label if you're REALLY careful. Some folks use kerosene too I think...

That's cool! YOu can find all kinds of cool transparent shells on Ebay for next to nothing these days. I just got one for my PS2 slim and it's gonna look sweet! It's great shopping for outmoded consoles. ;)

Acteone and naptha are able to remove stuff like that. You have to be very careful, though, as they can also remove label ink. I've seen Atari carts stand up to both quite well, and I've seen N4 carts stand up to naptha.

Acetone can eat polystyrene based plastic though. Polycarbonate based plastics can withstand it... maybe try it out on some old cart you don't care about first.

This morning I found a boxed Sega CD unit with all hookups, booklets and mounting hardware. Also in the box was a Genesis model 2, controller, gold plated Monster a/v cables and an Optimus microphone. I also found River city ransom, Little Nemo and Baloon Fight (NES) Super Punch Out! (SNES) N64 system with 2 controllers, power pack and another Game Boy Advance SP with a BattleBots game and no charger. These GBA chargers must be like finding One Eyed Willy's treasure, BTW.

Total damage was $25.
