It was totally awesome. I finished it just in time for my new battery to come in. The computer says it took me about 47 hours to complete the game, though I did play the skirmish and challenge missions, and a couple of the campaign games I screwed up and died on a few times, so I don't know how much of that is the actual game, but anyhow.

Awesome game. If you're a fan of Turn Based Strategy games, I'd say pick this one up. It's not quiet Advance wars, but IMO, at the moment it's the best 3DS game available.

I'm just starting again and upping the difficulty, you get to select any level you want once you beat it, so that's cool. Only downside, you don't get anything new once you beat the game, which may be a turnoff to some people, but I'm Ok with it.

Now I just need to find someone to play the multiplayered missions with.

As for the battery, it's, well, a battery :P It adds to the thickness of the system just shy of a quarter inch or so, and honestly, I like it as much for that as anything. It makes the system more comfortable to hold IMO. It runs about twice what the old battery did,s o with everything turned on it'll run 5-6 hours. Much better over the original. Oddly, it takes no longer to charge than the original battery does...but then, maybe it came charged :P I'll see after I charge it again.

Love the dock that came with it, it has a "power" button to turn it on and off  I guess so all the lights on it don't cause a brown out if you happen to turn your Xbox on at the same time

Only thing I didn't like, maybe it was just mine, but it seemed the battery was a bit hard to fit into the hole in the 3DS. Anybody else got one that had issues getting the back seated into the back of the system? Once I got it in, it was fine, but good grief.

It's good to hear. I was a fan of the turn-based 'Shadow Watch' game from 2000, also Tom Clancy themed. This looks like more of the same, except with X-Com's Julian Gollop on payroll. Not a bad name to have onboard.

Shadow War is the only 3ds game attracting my attention ATM, and it's not nearly enough to buy the system, but some day I will play that game. Is there a research & construction aspect as in X-com, or is it straight tactics?

If they already have a better battery from a third party then why does the one that comes with the 3DS suck so badly.

Um, they didn't have enough room to fit a bigger battery in the 3DS?

You have to bear in mind that the 3DS has many things that can drain the juice:

-3D Screen (due to the screen design, it needs the brightness to be twice as bright)
-Bottom Screen
-Wireless
-Volume (yes, louder volumes make a difference. Using headphones will help this)
-The CPU's and GPU's
-Camera (if it's being used)
-Motion Sensors

The 3rd party batteries all add bulk to the 3DS. If there is a better battery that's the same size as the stock one, the extra play time would probably be very minimal.

Not sure about research and construction. You can't build your own maps on here, which is a pitty, that is one thing that would definitely be cool. You do, as you progress through the game, gain extra weapons you can have your characters carry. Each has three slots, one for a primary weapon, one for a secondary weapon, and one for an armor..(keep in mind, some weapons may add armor) Of course, when you first start, you got one weapon and minimal armor, but you can unlock more as you go on.

As for the 3DS battery, I'd say money. I mean, I've taken the battery out of the 3DS, and I'm surprised at how lite the original battery is. Maybe lithium simply doesn't weigh much, but I don't know, I've alwasy equated more weight with more power (alkaline batteries vs "heavy duty" batteries, for instance) but this may be different from those, I do know that the PSP battery is considerably heavier than the 3DS battery is.

As I said, I like that it adds thickness to the system, but this could easily be a deal breaker for some people too.

One thing I have noticed though, if you charge with the plug, no problems. But when I charged with the included cradle, it doesn't seem to charge the battery all the way. Maybe I got a defective part, but I don't know, it's not the batteries fault, as I said, plug in direct it works fine. Heh, anyhow, I get well over 4 houts with everything turned on, so I'm happy anyways.`

Strange. I will look into that. Mine always seems to charge fully. I don't think replacement cradles are too expensive, though.
