Exactly my question. I do not think it is possible, unless there is some wierd scoring glitch/exploit that only one person has been able to figure out for the past 30 years.

As mentioned, the game ends. There is no indefinite repeating of levels to continue obtaining a higher and higher score. By my calculations of maxing out the number of sea horses, clouds (and switches between the two) then I think a theoretical upper limit is ~27,000. This is if a player blows through every level, maxes everything out, and doesn't touch anything. The 1M score is sooooooo way above this calculation that it seems in error somehow (maybe a typo?).

Yeah, I think the max is about 27,000 if you play a perfect game. Unless he figured out a way to start the levels over or some scoring trick. Maybe that was his score for another game but he thought it was for Fathom.
