Where did these come from. I am fairly certain that Neo Geo games are not the intended use. Somebody just figured out that they fit nicely. Does anybody know what these were originally?

Big Bear on neo-geo.com made them I think. Shock Boxes are for MVS games, since all they shipped in was crappy cardboard boxes. What are you talking about with your "I don't think they were designed for Neo games"? Of course they were!

I really have my doubts about that. I know Big Bear introduced them, but that doesn't mean that he didn't find something suitable that was meant for another application.

I am 99% sure he had a custom mold made for the production. So, yes, they were originally intended to box MVS games.

If Shock Boxes were designed for protecting a different object, then why wouldn't it have become common knowledge by now? Even Big Bear himself probably would have mentioned it. That's just how tight knit communities go.

It seems a LOT of the projects created on NG.com are made by people with deep pockets. Like say the NeoSaveMasta, NeoBiosMasta, UniBIOS and those replacement Neo LED PCB prototypes recently. A custom mold for the Shock Boxes definitely doesn't seem out of place now does it?

Based on prices I would say that there are a LOT of deep pockets in the NG community. It is completely possible he had a mold made, but I could have sworn I read some time back that they had a different intended use.

I think somebody once speculated they were Sony U-Matic videotape cases. I've never had an MVS cart & U-Matic case in the same room, so I couldn't tell you if there's any merit to it.

From what I remember about U-Matic tapes, I thought that a case for them would still be a little small for a MVS cart.
