* If the seller happens to read this, this is not meant to be offensive in any way. I'm just trying to get a handle on what values for this console are *

I'm about to make a deal with someone here for a 7800 with a set of 30+ games. Everything appears to be in good condition, except the 7800 will not have a power supply, so that will have to be purchased later. The deal looks good to me, but I'd like to see what you all think about it. However, as the price is to remain between me and the seller, I will not disclose that.

Includes 7800 console, 3 7800 controllers, a light gun, and 34 7800 games, a few of them coming with manuals.

I am assuming the value of a 7800 console, 2 controllers and power supply would be about $30.
What would be appropriate pricing for general games?
How much is the gun worth? How much are stock controllers worth?

I would say $100 for this package is respectable, if the console proves to work fine once you get a power adapter.

7800 power adapter is available here.

I wouldn't necessarily assume that. If the console is in good shape, as are the controllers and PSU, I would say it is worth a bit more like $40, IMHO. Condition is the key tho. As for the value of loose games...this is a very general question. It really depends on the game titles and condition of each. Some are only worth a buck or two. Others, like Tank Command, can be worth upwards of $100 loose.

For me, it is all about the "package deal" you are getting. Itemizing the cost of each thing is very hard to do and can lead to an unrealistic sale / purchase price. As a seller, I usually will offer a buyer a much better deal if they are buying a big lot like that. Part of the price savings is because I only have to pack one box and ship to one person. The other huge reason for offering a "package" discount is based on the buyer being OK with the "Package Price". This keeps the nickel and dime style breakdown from happening. Not only does this save me time as a seller, but also it is way less frustrating. Just my opinion tho.

I would suggest that you look at the overall package and the price, and how this relates to your budget, expectations and want for this purchase. If it meets your budget, fulfills your expectations and meets your wants...this would be the right buy for you.

Best of luck on the purchase! I hope you enjoy the 7800 as much as I do. Posted Image

I agree with Ben, I would expect more like $40 for a 7800 in nice condition with working controllers. The games, it will depend on how common they are.

Like others have said, $40 sounds about right for a nice system. But since yours won't have an A/C adapter, I would deduct. An A/C might end up costing you up to $10 or $15 by itself. So, think of his system as being worth roughly $30.

For the extra games with it, has it been confirmed they are all genuine 7800 games? I know that many lots I see will say "7800 with 30+ games", but two-thirds of them will be 2600 carts. If they are all 7800 titles for sure, maybe $100 is about right, maybe a bit more depending on what's with it (counting for uncommon titles basically). If 2600 carts are actually making up a majority of the batch, $100 is probably too much.

I appreciate the input, as always. :)

@Austin: Yes, they are verified 7800 games, one of the first things I made sure of. And the guy I'm dealing with is, I believe, a long-timer here, and respected. So I was pretty sure I was getting a good deal on it. I just tend to be very cautious when purchasing, and like to hem/haw a while.

Man, I am feeling a little shaky abouth my deal then. I picked a 7800, 2 contollers and 25 games (some uncommons) for $125. I thought it was a pretty good deal at the time, and I have really enjoyed the games.

I would jump on the deal if the games are decent.

It really depends on the uncommon games I suppose.

Realistically tho, if you got what you want and enjoy the heck out if it, then I would say you got a pretty good deal at $125. Just remember, you could have gotten it for $50 off ePay and had it arrive DOA. That would be worse.

Yeah, no ePay here. Mine was a Craigslist find and I was able to test it first. There was some Ninja Golf, Commando, and Ikari Warriors mixed in there.

I found it worth the bucks in the end because it is just dang fun to play the 7800. That is why I say go for it!

Unless you are broke...Pay the bills first is always good advice.

Figure your spending range, hunt down what you want... and buy.

If you want to know what somethings worth, just check completed items on eBay... that will
give you an idea what the deals are or "not".

Sometimes a console with "buy it now" for $5 $10 over the usual ending price, is a better way to go, avoiding the bidding war at the last few seconds on eBay.
