I'm guessing some CD players are having data transmission errors due to poor contacts (but that's just a guess)

Or it could be that Atari totally fooked the data storage format... Take your pick. ;)

But then I should be getting glitches no?

You might at some point, hardware age and tolerance is part of the equation as with all things, and given the JagCD phases of the moon probably as well. And yes, so is contact cleaning to a degree (i.e. try telling people they need to keep polishing their car because it doesn't start...)

Atari threw reliable reads out the window when they took a perfectly good established CD format and then ripped out the error correction, for apparently no reason. Try getting a consistently hashed read from their stupid format one day and see what I mean. When people occasionally get the question mark of dread with their shiny scratch free discs, it's likely because the stupid thing can't sync accurately enough to read the encryption hashing properly. So sometimes, some things work better on different units at different times. Temperamental is the word...

Or he could be having a hard failure, that's the fun of the CD units... :P

Probably why Jagtopia can boot disks that otherwise "?" - it skips the hash check.

I'd bet this is because it matches the format that is used for Audio CDs (not CD-ROMs) and they could use cheaper hardware that way.

Of course, the reason why CD-ROMs use a different format, with an extra layer of error correction, is because the companies who designed it found out that the Audio CD format was not reliable enough for data. But that didn't bother Atari, apparently. :D

I'm guessing its some kind of copy error. No other Jag CDs I have do this. But this one does every now and then.

But we won't let facts get in the way of people who want shiney clean contacts :)

Heh... when I read that you need "isopropyl, old t-shirt and a credit card" I immediately thought "why do I need an old t-shirt and isopropyl for buying a new JagCD?"

I did a near 20 Minute Video Review of the game with original JAguar Footage. Enjoy (Beware it's in GErman non-German speakers!) ^^

I bought the PC version from Good Old Games. I do like the PC voxel landscape I think a bit better than the polygon one the consoles have gotten.

Some differences. PC background graphics on the FMV look a bit more detailed. The map function only shows the areas you've been on the PC version and places you havent been need to be mapped out. Whereas on the Jag version the map is fully exposed. The 3do and PC version encounter with Darwin 5 has the full chomping sound of the werewolf trying to attack you. On the Jaguar this has been overlooked unfortunately. They may have started rushing near the end of development for this game a little bit on the Jag.

Ignore it. They are making a mountain out of a manhole cover.

Good work CDI, I think. It looks like you got a really good overview to the game for anyone speaking German who wants a good idea what its about. Unfortunately I cant understand a word your saying but good job anyways!. :)

There aren't that many videos available on the net for Robinsons Requiem. Well at least there weren't. I think now videos of the Jag version may actually have the lions share of coverage over all other versions.

Sorry i kind of skipped to the end here, but what is the issue with that annoying clicking sound that never stops? It start about three seconds into the game.

Just keep polishing your JagCD until it blinds you, I hear that solves all potential problems with its design and data storage format.

I just realized an advantage the Jaguar version has over the 3do version is its keypad which can be and in my case, is extensively used for movement. Freeing up the joypad for in game pointer activity.

Cant get past this guy. Tried lighting campfires all along, setting up snares. Nothing works. Guess I better wait until I get something more than a knife.

Thanks! I describe the most basic game mechanics, the meaning of the caves to get to other locations, how to manufacture and to threat your wounds. Maybe I do some subtitles in the future for you English guys. To speak Englisch would be a problem, because my main audience is in Germany ^^

Oddly enough there seems to be a bit of Robinsons Requiem mania going on out there. The release of RR for the Jag has coincided with the sale GOG has had on it now there is a few new PC vids up with people trying it out. Interesting. Everyone is getting their ass kicked though.
