so... is there an easy way to make a horizontal monitor a vertical monitor? i assume there is something else that needs to be done other than just flip the monitor on its side.

also...anyone have a source for an 8 or 10" color arcade monitor?

Flip the monitor 90˙ and there you have it. Oh - better hope the software you're running knows the difference and compensates.

What are we talking about here application wise? You talking about emulating vertically oriented games on a horizontally oriented screen? I'd just create a vertical bezel of sorts and be done with it. BTW: the other thread that asks "what's wrong with people lately", can't help but think of all the dolts I run into that pronounce 'oriented' as 'orientated'. They're everywhere! lmao

And no, not aware of any 8"-10" monitors. What you'd be after is 9" or 12". Those are the common consumer sizes. They're out there if you believe Google is your "friend".

Here's my plans and thoughts:

I have a countertop Klax... and well... I really don't like Klax. It looks like it is wired as a Jamma board from what I can see.
I could sell the Klax off, but doubt I'd really make much off of it. So I thought... why not just buy a Jamma Board that plays the vertical games (Pacman, galaga, Galaxian, etc)? I wanted a different type of Coutertop, because this one looks like crap. So I thought I'd build a Pacman/Midway type of one (small)... and reuse the Jamma harness, monitor and the nice little Coin slot. Then I'd have something I'd actually play. But... again.. I worry that it is more than just flipping the monitor 90 degrees.

It very well may be a 9" or 12" I already have in there... I just thought there was a color one the size of a Vectrex Machine monitor or a tad bigger. That would be more ideal my office or something.

Hmmm... it is telling me I should discharge that monitor before removing it from this arcade to another.
Is that really necessary? I shouldn't be touching any boards connected to the monitor/tube neck.

Unless there is something I need to do to it to make it vertical. Crap... I may take it to a tv repair shop up the road and make them discharge it. LOL
I don't think I am brave to do that.

Oh crap buddy... yeah. You should discharge the tube whenever working near it. Ground the red suction cupped wire going to the picture tube to the chassis (assuming it is grounded to earth proper when plugged in) and listen for the "snap" (not always present). You do this with alligator jumper wires and a screwdriver. Considering you do not know how to discharge a CRT and asking the questions you are - yeah... I'm done here. Good luck!!

Yep... I hate dealing with the monitor crap. I will get it discharged... but I can handle the other stuff.
Don't worry... I won't take any chances. I'll have someone else do it.

As the other member said, all you have to do is rotate the monitor. The arcade board is already set to output vertical.

Google "arcade repair tips" and there's a dude that does YouTube videos and one of them discusses discharging the monitor. I made a tool out of a flathead screwdriver, a power cord from a dead TV and two alligator clips.

I keep reading about the discharging... it really doesn't seem to be THAT difficult.
I may have to attempt this. LOL

So... ummm..... if I don't make it... who wants my atari 2600 games and my Lynx games?

Aside from all of this... is there a cheapo source for 60-1 boards?
or perhaps even smaller board?

I'm starting to think that if I am going to build a new cab for this, I should just throw a computer in there and make it a MAME.

Not this weekend.. I am holding off on it until later when I am ready to build the other cab, and I have a XXX in 1 Jamma board in my hands

I've bought from Holland computers.

Check this thread: http://www.atariage....-a-jamma-board/

Mock found an entire kit you can buy from them which will save you some dough.

Many monitors self-discharge (but of course you have to assume yours doesn't) and if all you're doing is taking the monitor out whole (frame and all) then discharging really isn't needed. That suction cup on the anode is specifically for safety. Assuming the anode is completely intact and the suction cup is tight to the tube, just don't go sticking your finger in there or trying to mess with the anode and you shouldn't need to discharge.

That said, discharging is not hard to do and is never a bad safety precaution if you don't feel confident in dealing with monitors.
