I was recently reading
this article about how difficult proper emulation really is, and it reminded me of this thread and bunches of others here. I've never experienced emulation up to my quality standards, and even I was surprised by how hard it can be.
Emulation is not 'perfect,' and it never has been. Emulation can be an easier way to get some kind of gaming experience, especially if a user has flexible quality standards. With inflexible standards, the 'easy' way to get that gaming experience is by simply using real hardware--which is where I go. I'm a big flashcart fan, so I can get a somewhat emulation-like jukeboxing convenience for many games. It costs more, but the extra has always been worth it for me.
