I really like the wii virtual console. It's a good way to get to play games I don't yet have or can't afford.

I have emulators on my wii too

Also its good for when i'm lazy and don't feel like hooking up a system and plugging in controllers and what not.

Just grab the Wii controller and play.

but, I don't consider it part of my collection in any way.

Its the same as emulators on a PC. But has nice wireless controllers and less fiddling around to set it up

I'd ask the opposite - is there any point in Virtual Console, with retro gaming. Or HBC/emulation...

With the HBC there's no reason to use it.

Well, I submit that there are differences in the quality of emulation. A common complaint is mushy controls. Truthfully I have never experienced that on the VC; to me it feels exactly the same. The only time that I have ever dealt with that was when I ran an NES emulator on the Dreamcast; it just didn't feel right. But the VC feels fine to me.

For me it is great to play games for systems I do not collect for. Nothing ever replaces the real thing, but wireless, savestates, and ease have me playing more than I would get to, because of time.

You guys need to look around the internet more. Why get an X-box? A modded Wii has an NES, SNES, N64, Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, 8-Bit, Amiga, Colecovision, Odysee 2, Gameboy, Genesis, Master System and more emulators.

Want to use the original controls?

Not to mention more emulators that are generally superior.

I was recently reading this article about how difficult proper emulation really is, and it reminded me of this thread and bunches of others here. I've never experienced emulation up to my quality standards, and even I was surprised by how hard it can be.

Emulation is not 'perfect,' and it never has been. Emulation can be an easier way to get some kind of gaming experience, especially if a user has flexible quality standards. With inflexible standards, the 'easy' way to get that gaming experience is by simply using real hardware--which is where I go. I'm a big flashcart fan, so I can get a somewhat emulation-like jukeboxing convenience for many games. It costs more, but the extra has always been worth it for me.

You'd probably enjoy this write up that deals with the difficulty of accurate emulation as well.

If you've already got a wii, that's $20 more than you need to spend.
