There is a pinball machine locally that someone is selling for $150 at an antique store (booth-type setup, so seller is not present at all times). The sticker on it says it lights up, but does not play. I'm not sure what they mean by this, and will hopefully be able to get the seller's info to ask them more about it. This one looks like it is from the late 70's, early 80's (I can't remember the name, will get that later today I hope).

I was wondering, is it relatively hard to restore a pinball machine? I've restored/repaired old radios, arcade machines, working on a pachinko machine which isn't too bad so far, etc.

Also, is it possible that the money to buy the parts may cost more than what the machine is worth?

It entirely depends on the condition. You can get fully working EM machines for $600 if you're patient enough.

Its not hard to restore a pinball, I have done it myself with no previous experience, and it looked amazing when it was done.

Does not play could be the start button not working, the coin slot not working, clear to flippers not working or (if its an EM), the score wheels not turning.

It could be cheap, and it could be expensive. The big thing is condition. If you're willing to put in the time, it shouldn't cost too much to fix... I want to say under $500.

Cosmetically, it was in good shape, no cracks in the glass and looked to be complete.

I just called them, and the owner of the place won't even take 2 minutes to go check the name of the machine, and I can't get the seller's number or have them call me. :( Looks like I'll have to wait until this weekend to go check on it again.

Found out today that it's Super Nova by Game Plan. I looked through it and a lot of it under the playfield is trashed, so I don't think it's worth bothering putting that much time and money into. Oh well, the hunt continues!
